I recently ran across a MARLIN 44 , it has a 16 1/4" barrel and is in excellent shape. I was already to spend some cash, when the clerk handed it to me is when I saw it has a ported barrel.I'm not fond of ported firearms, as they always seem to have a louder muzzle blast.
I would like to replace the barrel with a nonported barrel, are they available and would it be worth the expense?. Also who would you recommend to do the work?
Or is this much ado about nothing, and I should leave it ported!
Where to get marlin barrels......?

I have a Marlin 94P/ .44 that has a 16" ported barrel. I'm not really a fan of ported barrels either but I honestly don't see much difference between the blast of the ported .44 and the 16" barrel on my 94S, 45 Colt the isn't ported.
Low light conditions may be different ( i haven't tried it yet after dark)
To me it's no reason not to buy it. The 94P ins't rare but they are kinda scarce.

Check with Gun Parts Corp.. I bought a 20" octagon for $43.. could be cut down pretty easy, and installed by a gunsmith.. I did one myself.. but I've got a lathe and just enough experiance to make me dangerous.. Les
The ports MIGHT not be all that bad to the person shooting the rifle but I promise you anyone shooting next to you at a gun range won't like it.
I won't own one myself either.
