gun show score ( I think )

Post by plowboy 45 »

Went to the gun show in Hattiesburg today, was lookin for brass and such.
Really figured I couldn't afford any of their stuff
But then I looked down and there they was 2 sets 38 56 dyes bran r new 29.50, talked to the lady a little while when she said 20.00 tax and all, to me it was a good deal and only one I've ever got at a show.
So I ask about 38 55 , she didn't havem sold them in Tulsa couple weeks back, I knew I couldn't get that lucky, I almost bet some of y'all bought em :D
Was no 38 56 or 55 brass there
She offered a set of 45 70 dyes for 25.00 may run back 2mar and get them
Did I make a fair to good deal
Saw 550 22 lr for 55.00
100 cci lr for 15.00
Magtec 45 lc 36.50 if I remember correctly
Anyway things were some cheaper than the last show I went to
Very few Winchesters, seems only one man had them 4, 73s, 2,1894s
The 73s looked good but 2300 to 3200 give or take
The 1894s was 1200 to 1800 give or take
There wasn't a half dozen model 94s there 300 to 475
Had a good time to my surprise
Generally the dealers are stuck up arrogant know it all type, 2day seem to be different

So, how was the beef jerky? Were the Beanie Babies as cute as always? How many former Navy Seals did you see? Inquiring minds want to know.

A new set of dies in ANY caliber for $20 is a GOOD to EXCELLENT deal! With the box? Phenomenal!  At that price... I'd buy them, even if they were something I didn't want!!!! :P

Yelp new in box
Gonna ask a reloading question , read an old thread last nite on loading the 38 56 with 45 70 brass
One of you fellers said you used 40 65 sizing dye then moved on to the 38 56 dye
She had a set of 40 65 dyes, I know you can just start with the 38 56 dyes, im not huntin an excuse to go back, but if the 40 65 dyes would make the process say 75% or so easier, they might be worth goin to get, what y'all think

Cabelas had a shelf full of 100 count CCI 22LR last week for $8 a 100.

When sizing down that much. Doing it in a couple steps helps. But I am believer that you can never have to many die calibers on hand. :D

Here's a pic of lee reloading info
I have all the powders listed
It has been back in the 80s since I done any reloading
Seems like the 3031 is what I loaded 30 06 with
I'll dig out my manuals and refresh my brain

Byron and I crunched 45/70 before and we had the 40 die to step with BUT our best luck was to take them in one step (wrecked less cases) 45 down to 38 in one go. we had new brass I think that would be a must. We never tried fired brass.

Technically you can make 33 WIN 38-56 and 40-65 from 45-70 brass . Being as I had all four cartridges I got 40 pieces each of 33 and 38-56 with the correct headstamp and 100 or so of 40-65 so I didn't have a bunch of different stuff head stamped 45-70 .

I don't even have those calibers (except 45-70) and I would have bought them at that price!

On my local facebook swap forum someone posted a 333 round box of 33LR for $35 and someone snapped it up.
