new gun rack

Post by plowboy 45 »

Gathered up some black walnut boards, I had layin around
Planned them, sanded them, jointed them, glued and nailed them together
Come out like this
Was spoust to be like old lookin, like in a cowboy movie
Well black walnut and tung oil gets really dark, but what the heck
At least I ain't got multiple guns in each corner now, wife's really proud of that
After I got it built, my cousin told me he had the door off our great granddaddys smoke house and the gable ends
Just could pooed right then and there, cause their heart pine, very weathered, and 10 to 16 inches wide
O well I took them anyway
My son likes the darker stuff, so I may let him have it and start on another one
As usual my photography ain't to good
Tell me what y'all think good or bad

Would that be for thieves or children?
Seen that in a movie yesterday
Thought about an old trace chain, or a narrow board about receiver high
Got a really old brass lock
You did say good pad lock, so I suspect thieves

Looks great.

As far as lockability, you have

1. The curious toddler - who dare not break much of a lock, even if he were physically able,
2. The curious teenager - who could break most anything, but wouldn't dare for fear of consequences,
3. The delinquent teenager or average burglar - who would get through anything but a top notch safe, and
4. The professional thief - who would get through anything imaginable if motivated enough.

A steel cable through the triggerguards or board/padlock arrangement gets you level 2 protection. Nothing affordable I know of that allows you to see your guns and gives you better than level 2.

Consider a Safe 'Door' and locking your entire 'gun room', if possible, and then your guns can all be in beautiful walnut racks like that, without even a chain or cable.
