He left behind much love and friendship, it would appear.

I came to know a gent that was a waist gunner on a B-17 during WWII. His name was Bob. Bob's plane was shot down over Germany in 44 by a group of ME-109 pilots known as "The Abbeyville Kids." The enemy pilot's sole mission was to protect the installation Bob's group had been assigned to bomb. He was smuggled back into occupied France by a French double agent. The double agent's future was not so rosey after the French underground got wise to him. Anyway I would visit him in a nursing home several times a week. There was no reason for him to be in a nursing home, he had just given up on life. I enjoyed our visits. Infact we watched the movie Enola Gay together. Bob had some great stories. I know he enjoyed the time we spent but I could tell there was an emptyness to his life. It seems he always missed his war buddies and could never recapture those times. I went to his funeral. It was a soul stirring event. These guys deserve our best. We receive several solicitations a year to donate to veteran's groups. We do it gladly. Do what you can for these people. Thank You. 1886.
