Texas hill country is imfamous for deer the size of dogs, but this guy was leading his harem around in my front yard this morning.
He's beefier than the photo shows, I would guess 175 lbs., which is massive for this country - they get bigger in the coastal scrub and piney woods.
also saw a smaller buck with a missing antler yesterday

I could see launching sharp pointed sticks with feathers from longish wood curvy handheld projectors to lesson the chance some nice lady in a new mini-van did not tear off the grill.
Public service first in mind, of course.

Steve, you have a lot of nice deer around Lampassas.
I've made the 281 drive more than a few times, and the stretch south of Lampassas has so many road kill stains it looks like Manassas instead.

yep,
I'm about 10 mile south on and 5 west off 281. I use 281 to Burnett and the back county roads to Lampasas. We see road kill everyday seems.
I gotta get a brush guard for my truck. I don't drive fast and am always looking but have had 2 close calls just this year.
Steve when did you leave east Texas? I have a grandson in northeast Texas, Clarksville . He bought a new Rossi .44 trapper that might need a little work.I'll give him my copy of your video, he is the one that bought the .44 for me to replace the one that was stolen.
That hill country must be real pretty.

We moved back in the spring of last year. Had to get out of town and the grand kids are now closer, too.
thanks - it was in a fog, cropped from a zoom shot to begin with, enhanced a bit (contrast), and the breaking dawn light did the rest.
That was also the only good photo out of 6 before he tip-toed out of range.
Steve, you've moved to some great country. Next I have a plan to drive that way, I'll bring you some work.

Good deal. Just call for directions before you head this way. We are so far back in the woods your GPS will try to put you on roads that don't exist.
