Bowen 44 special OM Ruger

Post by rjohns94 »

Well it arrived. After drooling over Jason's Bowen for a while, mine finally arrived. Started out as a .357 OM and had a Bowen conversion to .44 special. 4 5/8 inch barrel, Turnball cc on frame, hammer. Base pin change out, fire blue screws, Bowen grip frame and action job. I'm pleased. Rob at simply rugged is doing a cross draw holster, double laminated belt and cartridge holders.

Sure is classy looking Mike......and in my favorite caliber. Tell me, did they use the original cylinder?

That's really nice. I am dreaming of having a 38 WCF done up one day. But its hard to beat a 44 special for all round use. Hope it shoots has good has it looks!

I'd love the same thing, except I am a Bisley-grip fan. Bowen's conversions have great reputations.

me too...if I started with a .44 Special I probably still have it today...very nice SA,
unfortunately I am a lousy shot with a SA, love the platform, but shoot a Glock 27/23 .40S&W better... :)

That is pretty. If you ever get tired of it, you sure won't have far to look for a bunch of fellas who would gladly buy it from you.

Old model

Thanks guys, Bowen is a great company to work with. This one is going fur hunting tomorrow for fox and or coyote. Love the 44 special. It's my favorite handgun cartridge. It's just "special" and wicked accurate. Good luck to those who have dreams of doing something similar. Well worth it!

Old Model. It is the original style of Blackhawk. Those who are lucky enough to have them are aware of the better and smoother trigger pull that the design has over the New Model Blackhawk. I am not lucky enough to have one.

Beautiful. I had a similar revolver built by Jack Huntington. A 265gr MT. Baldy KT bullet on top of 13.5grs of H-4227 ignited by a Rem. large pistol primer was my load. Yours is very pretty. 1886.

Well that smooth "light"trigger surprised me today. I went for a woods walk for some exercise and took the 44 with me. I walked on the game lands and was noticing the different prints in the snow patches. I walked about a mile to the river and then turned around. While walking the brush lines I noticed a fox up on the hill, standing outlined on the ridge line some 300 yards away. I moved just into the brush line and started calling to the fox, kissing the back of my hand and inbetween two fingers. He caught the sound after a few minutes and sat down to get his bearings. I kept calling and once he was locked in he started coming. He never hesitated. I took a knee in the snow and cocked the pistol so as to not make noise when he got close. There was a dirt road and a slight hill after that between me and him when my knee hit the ground. I could no longer see him as I waited. When he did reappear, he was on a straight line to me at 60 yards. I brought the Bowen up and as I aligned the sights I put my finger in the trigger guard as the sights settled on where he would be in about two seconds when kaboom! the slight pressure of my fat digit set the round off. The bullet creased the snow between his front paws. He darn near jumped out of his skin as he turned to run. It looked like he ran through his body to head in the opposite direction. I tried to connect on him running away and then to the side. I could see my lead was just a bit much on two shots, and I shot over his back on one of the going away shots. Anyway, he got off unharmed and I got a great reminder not to be so sloppy with my trigger finger and that spot on at 75 yards is the perfect lead on a moving fox. There is always tomorrow. Coyotes and fox are hunt able on Sundays here in Penns Woods. I plan to be out the next few days come snow or shine.

Nothing like a perfect sixgun to make the PA woods safe! The .30-30 doesn't hurt either!

That is a BEAUTIFULL revolver but I also prefer the Ruger Bisley (shades of Elmer Keith) grip frame for my hands. -Tutt
