New Addition to the Stable
In celebration of the DC "shutdown" and in light of the possible bans coming down the pipeline from our illustrious governor, I just plunked down some coin for this...
She's getting chambered in 6.8 SPC as I build up funds. Should make for a nice little deer/pig whacker.
Although, I have no idea how long the background check will take....

I love TEXAS. Walked in the store, paid my money, waited for the clerk to call... he wrote cleared on the form... handed me my new ARE receiver and I walked out... Ain't got anything to do with the shutdown... It's only a call to the local Sheriff's Office, a check in the 'puter... and viola, done. Don't drink the CA political kool-aid... That's a farcical abomination forced on you by your elected officials. A hold-over from days when 'puters weren't available in every local SO or PD. It's supposed to be that if they don't hear back w/in 10 days, they're clear to transfer it to you.
Sorry, didn't mean to rant...
I just ordered a complete upper & rifle stock to go with mine... should be at the house when I get home next week.

Could a thing like that be used to build a 45 ACP carbine? Or .40 SW?
Looking for a house gun my wife can like.

Re: New Addition to the Stable
They do make pistol caliber uppers, have to modify the lower for the mags though. If you have a 1911 I think a better bet is the Mec tech carbine conversion unit.

Re: New Addition to the Stable
The government shutdown does not affect the NICS background check function as it is permanently funded.
Oh and the telephone call is NOT to the local sheriff. It is to the NICS which is an FBI function.

Re: New Addition to the Stable
Hey Perry...no additional parts yet. I used Rock River lower parts for my last build and will probably use them again in this one. I prefer 2 stage triggers, so I'll probably go with RRA's Match unit. As for uppers, who knows? Right now, prices are more or less in the same neighborhood when it comes to manufacturers, so availability and lead-time could play more into my decision process.pwl44m wrote:10 days conventional, Who knows with Gub shut down but that is only spose to be Fed. I went through Golden State Tactical for this lower and the owner says the shutdown isn't affecting NICS at this time.

If a Texas resident has Concealed carry the FFL dealer does not have to call the NICs line. All that is required is the normal in house 4473 (yellow sheet) paper work.
Something many folks don't know, too. If you buy a gun from a dealer and you have the concealed license, your 4473 info is kept with your FFL. The government does not get this info. The only way they can obtain it is if they have a serial number traced back from the maker to the FFL. They will contact the FFL and ask who it was sold to. In other words, they can trace guns if they happen to have the gun or serial number but not people. The actual buyer info stays with the FFL.
However, if the transaction is called in to NICs, all bets are off. NICs doesn't get the specific gun info other than long gun or hand gun, but they do get the buyers info. It's supposed to be destroyed but I have heard of where the FFL calling in has asked specific questions and the NICs operator has answered with info that should have been destroyed. I don't know if this is true but I just don't trust them.
Depending on the state, it may well be the local sheriff. Some states (not Texas) have their own back ground check system and don't use NICs.Stan in SC wrote:The government shutdown does not affect the NICS background check function as it is permanently funded.
