My newly acquired 1873 has a different serial number.
It dates to 1899, but........
the number is3XXXX6B
What is the B ?????
Does this mean there were two guns made with the same serial number????
Was the B added after a return to the factory???
Thank you.
Question on Winchester serial numbers.

Re: Question on Winchester serial numbers.
Generally, yes, after a return to the factory, also marked with an "A" or an "X", IIRC, they signify different things. Tho' it wouldn't surprise to find it part of a pair. You can find a wealth of info over at http://www.winchestercollector.org.
