I'm Done

Post by jkbrea »

Today was my birthday and last day as a cop. I'm retired as of tomorrow. Three years as an MP and 27 as a street cop. I made it fairly intact but a shoulder replacement did me in. I can't complain. Several friends didn't make it this far. Now I'll have time to spend with my new granddaughter. Gotta find something else to do now. At least I'll still have access to the range.

Congratulations.

But, you don't have to rub it it... I have 16 months left...In that amount of time I have to decide what I want to be when I grow up so I can start my second career. And hopefully still find time to fish with the grandkids

I retired August 2,2002 at the tender age of 61.Never looked back.Never regretted retiring.Loved what I did but don't miss it.
Now I work part time a couple of days a week of all places in a gun/pawn shop.I wish I had been there my whole career.
You will really like retirement.Congratulations,sir.

I've been retired 14 years, well maybe I should count another 18 too as I spent those teaching what I did all my adult life. Worst thing about being retired is there are no days off.

My first thought (fleeting) when I read COSteve's post was "yeah, right". I retired from the City of L.A. Dec. of '09, and immediately moved to Oregon (Heaven compared to LA). Six months later I was diagnosed with throat cancer. Through 18 months of treatments, 4 surgeries, 30 radiation treatments, a whole lot of folks here in my small town stepped up with help, love, and prayers (three drove 120 miles to pray for me in the hospital). My thoughts now are "Oh yeah!". My retirement has given me not only time, but a whole new outlook and a new family here in beautiful, smog free, friendly Oregon. 3rd best thing that could ever happen to me (after finding Jesus, and my wife) was retirement...

OOPS! Almost forgot; now, by the grace of God, I'm cancer free!

Congratulations! Is there any chance you could (or would want to) get into consulting or training other LEO agencies?

Congrats, Enjoy !!! I retired last September but still don`t feel retired at all. Lots of things to do.

That`s good advice.

Good For You. A lot of people say that retirement is boring because every day is the same. My dad didn't retire until he was 71, and he started riding his motorcycle with his club as president, so he is always either planning a ride, riding, or recovering from a ride.

I hope you enjoy it.

Congratulations, Sounds like you deserve it. There is life after retirement, so enjoy it and see what you've been missing. Hard to believe I retired from the state police in 1999. Proof of life after the department.
