That's the way it should look. You can't imagine the pucker factor when a 2.75 rocket decides to leave the pod while the Phantom is sitting unattended on the ramp. And the ordinance folks wanted us to wander out into the desert, at night to find it. Yea, like that was going to happen.

That's no squid...that's an aviator and F-18C from VMFA 232 - a Marine, the way God and Chesty Puller intended. :D

In the picture above, you can just see the markings on the vertical stabilizers that are visible in the image below:

My wife has guilted me into fully disclosing that since it's a USMC legacy Hornet, that unlike a Squid F-18, it's maintained with large hammers and depending on what part of the fiscal year the picture is taken in, it's probably flying with parts cannibalized off 2 or 3 other aircraft in the squadron.

Let's see, my military courses in prep for Warrant Officer candidancy school, told me that the Marines (by God and Chester Puller) are a subset of the Department of Navy, whose leader, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, report to the Secretary of the Navy, and are therefore Navy... and when deployed aboard a Naval vessel, report to the Commanding Officer thereof.

And on this date in Naval history:
1942 - Battle of Midway (June 4-6) begins. During battle, the four Japanese carriers which attacked Pearl Harbor are sunk; this decisive U.S. victory is a turning point in the Pacific war.

How else would the Navy keep order aboard ship other than having Marines run the brig?
