Why do I want this???
I've been gravitating to more traditional guns for a long time, leverguns, single action revolvers, now the Sharps and stuff. With the exception of my carry guns, that's pretty much all I've shot for several years. For some reason, I've really been WANTING a Beretta 92 9mm! I've owned or do own, Glocks, Sigs, Walthers, and 1911's for semi autos, but I've never owned a 92 Beretta. I've shot one many years ago, and liked it, but that's all. For some reason the high capacity, and full size of the 92 is tugging at the purse strings now.....

Having trained with, and been issued one with live ammo for security duty, I urge you to resist.

Re: Why do I want this???
A close friend has a 92 and while I give him loads of stuff about it they really are pretty nice guns. Not small, handles well, accurate, etc. I can't buy one even if I wanted too or I'd never here the end of it so it's a good thing I prefer the Browning HP's. If I'm going full size 9, that's the one I'd pick, 2nd place to the CZ's.
Re: Why do I want this???
Do it...... I always "knee jerk" about 9mm, but, I carry a .380, 38, or .22 mousegun I have .45s at the house and open carry in the woods, etc...

Re: Why do I want this???
It's been our issue SideArm for close to 30 years now, easy to shoot well, are pretty accurate, so what's not to like?
There were some issues early on with some of the rock 'n roll type units breaking slides on them by using submachine gun ammo in them, but that was a rarity. The open slide occasionally created problems in super dusty environments like we experienced in Desert Storm,
But that said, I think they are a nice addition to anybody's collection along with the Sig 226 and a few 1911 thrown in to boot

If you use or have used a 1911 a lot, be prepared to be confused by the Beretta de-cocker/safety.

Re: Why do I want this???
Just before I left CA, the department I was with was transistioning from the .38Spl revolver to the 9mm... in a 92F. I really dreaded it. I was comfortable with the revolver for uniform wear and my Combat Commander for both plain clothes and undercover use. I was relunctant. Thankfully, I never had to make the change. But... they are a fine gun... just not one I'm keen on.

I have had to use them and own one now but not my first choice. The last three deployments we were carrying the 1911 again.

If you like the 1911, you may prefer Taurus' version of the 92 - the safety is a 'sweep-down' type and very natural to use for 1911 fans. The Beretta's safety is one of those awkward 'push-forward' ones and personally that is a deal-breaker for me - no way.TedH wrote:I've owned or do own, Glocks, Sigs, Walthers, and 1911's for semi autos, but I've never owned a 92 Beretta. Re: Why do I want this???
I carried an issued 92D for duty for about 9 years. It had the decocker/safety switch but it was deactivated. It was set up double action only. Transitioned from model 64. I ended really liking it. The trigger pull was VERY nice, nicer than my 64. It was smooth all the way through with a nice crisp break, no stacking at all. I don't know how many rounds I fired through it over the years, but it was a lot. The only malfunction I had was when I went through a qualification course with the pistol completely dry, no lube. I had one stove pipe during the course.
I would have bought it when I left the PD, but by then the regime was very anti-gun( I had been able to buy my model 64 years before) so, no dice. The pistol was battered and worn on the outside from years of street patrol in the ghetto, but it still ran well. It was later destroyed, along with all the other 92's, bought for the original transition, rather than be traded in when they bought the second batch from Beretta. They also destroyed all the Remington 870's, rather than trade them in, when they transitioned from patrol shotguns to the Storm rifle.
I would buy another if I came across a good deal.

Darn things are solid and will take a beating. They will even function while packed with Iraqi sand. Not a light CCW gun but comfortable if you have lager hands.
