How'd you like to have a horse like this?

Post by Rusty »

Just saw this on the local news. The owners say she can open all kinds of doors and latches.

No thanks, I've had dogs that could open gates and doors, that was bad enough.

Back in a different lifetime when I was married to a farm girl we had a Standard Bred named Suzy.
That animal could get out of just about anything. I was always afraid she would get out in the road and get hurt.
Only horse I really ever liked. She would always come to me when I called but it sure was unnerving for this city
kid to have a 1000# animal running loose!
I'll stick to my boats, thank you very much! :D

You learn early on to make sure stuff is 'horse-proof', but they always seem to find one more thing you didn't 'fix' well enough.

Yep, I'm hoping that our horses don't see this and get ideas. It's bad enough when we leave the tractor parked in the pasture while working and the coil wire comes up missing.

my neighbor had a thoroughbred that was able to do that same exact thing....

I just put all 5 horses in their stall,
fed them and went about doing my chores....
after he finished his feed....he would unlock his stall
walk over the the other stalls...chase the other horses out...
and eat there feed.....and then break into the the feed storage closet...

I would have to try to train that horse to stay put a little better. Smart animals need more training, and more attention.

A friends horse would go through the pasture taking the halters off all of the horses. It took her awhile to figure out that it was the horse that was doing it.

Had a dog that could open combination locks on his kennel. Had to replace 'em with key locks.

I trained my dog to bring in the newspaper from the driveway, eventually he learned to bring in the mail and would sort it by magazines, letters and bills. Worked great until I realized that he signed up for a lifetime subscription to "Cat Fancy" magazine, and used my credit card!

We did have a horse like that. QH gelding, 5yr old when we got him. First day we had him, put him in a temp. stall, one that had the panels held together with pins. Within minutes he had pulled enough of the pins so that it all collapsed. Barn stalls we had to wrap a chain through the bars and put a snap on it were he couldn't reach it. He opened the tailgate on the pick up once while I was doing fence work.
