So much for the end of the world!

Post by Mainehunter »

Since the world didn't come to a screeching halt I decided to put on lay-a-way my first semi-auto pistol. Never owned one but shot a few of them. A slightly used S&W M&P 45ACP with three mag clips and holster for a decent price.

On a serious note I have been thinking of getting one for awhile the way things have going on in the world as of late. It really feels like the world is coming to end in away :( Hopefully next month I can finish paying off the semi-auto and sign up for a hand gun safety course so I can get my CCW permit.

Hey, there was a .5% accuracy error in their calculations.

So it's possible it's just a timing issue. 26 days leeway
makes Jan 03 a cutoff date that's in range.

With your prices rising, you guys will soon have to pay almost what we guys over here in Europe has been paying for new stuff for a long time. Only good thing about not being able to own as many firearms as you want, is that the prices for used stuff is close to nothing over here.
Here in Sweden, we are permitted to own 4 long guns for hunting, with a small letter of explanation sent to the authorities, you can get 6. Everything above that is really hard to get. The absolute max is 10 firearms. But that number can only be achieved if you have a job payed by the government, with the purpose of taking down game that are harmful, spreading decease or such.
My point is, when you have a limited number of slots to fill, used guns tend to be VERY cheap.
Cheap to the point that people do not recognize a valuable collectors piece if it bit them in the butt....
Good for people like me, who love leverguns with some history behind them, but also bad for me, because I cant keep all the guns I want to.
Besides that, you guys would not believe the restrictions we have on guns over here...
Not allowed to use more than 2+1 in a semiautomatic when hunting bear, no rifle design can be of military origin, and what not. Darn crazy is what it is. Sometimes I wish I lived over there with you guys.

Ok, finished mumbling now, I just wanted you guys to know that all hope is not yet lost, and to tell you a little about how things work around here on the other side of the pond.
With that said, my thoughts go out to you guys who have to live with this stuff. On the other hand, U S of A is such a big influence on the rest of the world, that we also have to suffer from what happens over in your nick of the woods.
Darn, I just said that I were finished, didn´t I?! Well, be done with it then, dumb Swede...

We Americans are an influence on the rest of the world? Hmm... we keep hearing that we need to be more like Europe, with your "sensible" gun laws.

Boehner lost what was left of the faithful with his lousy "Plan B".

so... the thing is going over the cliff.

Maybe the world has ended and we just don't know it yet, because it's not the fall that kills ya, it's the sudden stop at the end.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Well, mostly no...
Sure, there are aspects of your gun laws that would not fly here, but I for one are sad that I cannot own as many leverguns as I want to. On the other hand, the used guns I buy here today, are way cheaper than those you can buy.
For example, my neighbor has a Winchester 1895, it´s in GREAT shape. Three owners, his grandfather got it as a gift from a Swede who moved to Alaska to be a trapper. It´s in .307 Winchester, the bluing is noticeable, the wood is in great shape.
Built in 1912. The maximum amount I´ve seen one of these go for over here, is 1200 bucks...
But that was mint, unfired, in box condition.
The gun my neighbour has, would maybe go for 500$, and if the same gun was sold on action over at your side of the pond, it would easily get 2250$. The gun has all the history from day one documented in national press, and it´s all original. Nothing has been changed.
If I were a fan of those guns, I´d go down there and buy it from him, but I have no interest in box mag guns, sadly.
I´ll try to get some pics of it up on the forum, and you´ll see the difference between how different laws around firearms can change the value of a gun...

What I would have the hardest time dealing with is the limit of ten (or less) firearms. Please don't interpret this as bragging but I (and many others here) have... um... somewhat more than that.

As do we :)
Most of us have no more than four...
I had four, sold two to get my 444p.
And by the way, my last post was easily misinterpreted. I meant, that mostly no, you should not try to be more european.
However, I actually do believe that our system works fine, if you are not a collector. That´s the main difference. Here, you be either collector, or hunter. Collecting arms may very well include making the firearm inoperable. Strange thing though, despite all our silly laws, all blackpowder firearms from 1880 and forward are free to buy for anyone. But then, the prices are astronomical. A really worn out, barely firing Remington army revolver will go for about 1200 dollars or more. For a not-safe-to-shoot revolver!? With no provinence what so ever. It´s just the fact that it´s free of any permit rules. Oh, and you can not hunt with BP, or bows over here.
Anywhoooo..... It´s time for bed again, just when it starts getting interesting.
Well, see ya tomorra!

Beats me... I guess they can tap themselves on the back, saying "Hey, we did something about all those dangerous weapons out here!"
