Just missed a dog, 1am harassing my goats, using a pistol & a mag light; funny, he wouldn't stand still for me but ducked behind the barn. I'm even slower with my shotty thus the pistol. My ears are still ringing. Can anyone recommend a light+mount I could put on my 1894c? I'd be really handy if the light could be easily mounted dismounted.
Thanks

If you'll look back thru his posts AJMD has done a lot of work with just that set up. He also has goats to protect.

The first thread shows the holosights I started to work with and so on, if you've not selected your favorite one of those yet - the Burris Fastfire-II is by far the best for my farm-oriented nocturnal use, and is even better combined with a pistol laser just in front of it.
I think the .45 Colt Marlin will be my favorite, but I am getting a .357 Can (Mystic) so I've thought about having the .357 Marlin threaded. Really, though, the .45 Colt 'cowboy' level loads are quiet enough to shoot on the occasional out-doing-chores and spot a raccoon/possum/coyote type thing. If I know I'm going outside to shoot a barnyard critter I'll grab the muffs.
The .357 Marlin shot this 50-yard group in pitch-black conditions with the Coast LED-Lenser, Burris Fastfire-II, LaserMax Pistol Laser, and 'floppy' version of the PVC base for the light.

I don't want to upset folks who can't relate to dealing with barnyard vermin, but I could see a feral cat at 100 yards with any of the above setups, though I've only proven it with a bullet using the .22 LR at 75 yards.
I use a bulkier light (300 lumens or thereabouts, from the hardware store) on my .22 LR barnyard gun (no pictures of it with that light), just because the gun shape and stock are more amenable to that bulk (I use the bulkier Bushnell Holosight on it, as well, for the same reason).

Doc, I like that pitch black group.
I've got a dog 'yote worrying the barn some nights, he also has put a stalk on me and Jack, (my ACD), while on our morning walk a few times. Can't seem to get one off at him, thinking about a better low light setup than the M27 Smith and a Maglite.
