Old photo of horse and cowboy in need of feed!

Post by rangerider7 »

I don't know which one needs it worse but he needs to feed that horse before he rides out. I found the photo on the internet. It is dated 1918-1920. Times must have been bad for this cowboy. After WWl most texans were doing okay until the droughts hit in 1927-8. He must have been down on his luck. His name was Walter Ely Jr. I hope things got better for both of them. No telling how bad it got during the "Great Depression" later on. RR7

Aye, RR7... that cowboy is a might lean. I'd have to say, way taller'n average, as is his "ride". And yep, that horse needs a feed bag. Some corn oil soaked oats should fatten him right up!

In 1928, my grandfather gave up ranching in the Tonto Basin of Arizona, which he loved, to come to Oregon and build houses. He got settled here, started building, and the Depression hit. He was never the same man.

Besides being thin doesn't the horse seem to have a short body?
