Remington model 241 semi-auto, 22 LR

Post by getitdone1 »

Been looking at information on the internet pertaining to the old Remington model 241.

Reason I'm interested in this model is I believe it has a longer buttstock than the Browning semi-auto it's very similar to and would think it would be just as reliable. I also like the older style rear sights, mounted low on barrel and flat across the top with small notch. I read they made it capable of withstanding high velocity ammo while it's forerunner, the model 24, would not.

Do any of you have this model and if so, how do you like it?

I have a 241 speedmaster in excellent shape, that's about all I can tell you about it for now as I've never shot it.

I have 3 of them. One was my Dad's. It has had a truck load of ammo shot through it. The are much better proportioned and balanced than the Browning's.

I have one I bought from a local gentleman who loves old guns. I like it. Was thinking of getting the Browning, the barrel on the 241 is longer.

Durn yer hides, all of you! The LAST thing I need I need rekindled is an interest in another old .22!

How do they compare to the Winchester 74, besides the 74 not being a TD?

The Win 74 is much easier to service, has a full size stock, and a longer sight picture. There were over 400,000 made so they are easier to find and parts are readily available.

I have a couple of the 74s, one with the shorter barrel. Both are totally reliable and extremely accurate. Have won many a side of hog meat with the long, 24" barreled one.

Here are my Remington 121 Fieldmaster Bbl code WRR and 241 Speedmaster Bbl code PG9. I also have a Win 74 in 22 short only but wont get into which I think is better, but the Remington does have the edge on hours spent machining and workman ship just by design of the action. They are both great guns that will never be back.

Thanks, figured you pick that up. :) Whats kind of neat on the 121 with the WRR is there is a stamp that looks like a tobacco smoking pipe in front.

Inspectors stamp. The "9" after the "PG" refers to something that was done when it was sent back to the factory.

Well....with the reliability of the Browning type action and the more adult sized stocks I don't see how I can go wrong buying the Remington model 241.

Personally, I don't know of a more reliable 22 semi-auto than the Browning. If there is a 22 more reliable I'd like to know about it.

More reliable? Yes there is. The Remington 550 series that replaced it. It has the "floating" bolt so you can shoot shorts, longs, or long rifles.
