More Model 94 questions.

Post by Pitchy »

Haven`t seen this one either my buddy has and told me about it.
It is nickel steel half round half oct. barrel 30-30 rifle , crescent butt plate full length capped forearm.
It wears a half magazine that someone long ago may have changed from full length as the dovetail or screw hole for a front hanger is there with a blank in it.
Overall in nice condition and they`er asking 650.00 for it, going to go take a look tomorrow.
Thoughts?

Hey Pitchy, sounds like a shooter, but in my humble oopinion, 650 is too high for a gun that is not original. If it has a good bore, and it feeds reliably (I would test this....mainly because alot of backyard gunsmiths I've seen do mods to alot of rifles) And everything else is in great shape maybe 450 as a shooter. Do you know the serial number?

Just went and looked at a nice 94 30-30 made between 43-48, they want 500 for it.

The OP rifle would be tagged 2x higher, here - and most likely not hang around very long.

I don't think all that unreasonable if it otherwise "calls to you."

+1 Pete44ru and Mike D.. I guess my attitude is it wouldn't take much to "make it original" again. Seems like the only sin committed was at least the easiest to rectify. A full tube naturally (or otherwise) aged the same as the barrel shouldn't be hard to find. Wa la. Pre War octagonals or half octagonals are certainly going for that and much more in my neck of the woods. War or post-war era "Pre 64s" (all carbines then) still averaging $500 in decent condition. C*** early Post 64s less of course (though some amazingly ask that and more to the unwitting) My .02.

"(though some amazingly ask that and more to the unwitting)" Isn't that what pawnshops and high priced dealers are doing, selling to the unwitted ones... Which of course raises the gun prices... :o  :?   Then when we go to buy them cheap, they ain't cheap no more   :(

Thanks , i`m gonna look at that half round barreled one tomorrow before i do anything else.
That would be unique and like said not that hard to convert back.
I gotta do some trading though so we`ll see what happens.

Thats my thoughts. Half rd/oct barrels on '94s are rare. Sure would be nice to see what the rest of the rifle looks like. Lets pretend its a 75% rifle with no extra holes and decent wood. If you put the full mag back on, you could get 15 for it.----------Sixgun

Sixgun, you`ll give 15,000 for it if i fix it

There was a bullet in this old Ideal number 1147 mold so i stuck it in a unprimed case to take along tomorrow to run through actions.
Forgot to weigh it of course but funny looking tall flat nose bullet isn`t it.

Check the length, it looks like it may be a bit long. It wont be at all happy if it's too long, even if the gun is OK.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?
