Gave the wife a good scare with my levergun

Post by KirkD »

Last fall when I was developing a load for my 38-72 rifle, I stepped out the back door and carefully fired a round over the chronograph into a large stump I use as a backstop. I had no idea that my wife was hanging clothes on the line on the deck above me and she had no idea I was down below. I was wearing those fancy earmuffs that block the shot out but amplify everything else. I pulled the trigger, heard the boom coupled with an almost simultaneous scream above me. Now there is a new rule my wife has instituted around the house and backyard ...... I have to let her know every time I'm going to let one rip.

Well, looks like time to clean those shorts! :D

You ought to see the looks I get when testing (usually just one shot) something down in the basement.----------Sixgun

Did that to the EX. Might be part of the reason she's an Ex.

Though it was a .222R and a woodchuck in the garden.

Funny then but really funny now!

cycle the action several times when you're done shooting and test-fire before you head for home.

I should clarify here that this was not an accidental discharge. I wanted to chronograph a load and deliberately fired a round over the chronograph into a large stump. I don't know what the stump originally weighed, but I've been using it for several years now and it is a good deal heavier to move around now.

Yep. We don't have that rule about 'anything else' ...... the constant warnings from me would just be too much. :D
