Neat! Love it when a manufactorer loads new ammo for an almost absolete caliber. No flies on the original 300 savage. This should run it close to the 308wcf. Thank you Hornandy, even though my 99A is a 308. Now get to work on the .356 WCF.
I absolutely love Hornady.
They actually shaped their grains of powder (patented)that they get much improved burn/same operating pressure.
All I know is their .223 Superformance is outstanding. Has a BC of .290 and also the (same wind drift and trajectory as your standard 22-250 )
Good Luck with that fine .300 Savage ammo.(really steps it up)
Sure the stuff ain't cheap,BUT sometimes it's just nice carrying that gun knowing it's with the saying(be all you can be)

I think it is a fine thing Hornady is bringing out a nice load for 300 Savage users that buy factory ammo. At 2740 fps it may well be 150 fps past what other factory ammo has been, but I'd think a handloader with the variety of powders available today could come close to that without exceeding standard pressures. Just speculating here. I haven't played much with the 300 Savage. Tried a few loads, one stood out enough in the accuracy department that I grabbed it and haven't looked further: a regular 150 Hornady spitzer pushed to 2600 fps with RL15 powder. This was middle of the pack of what I tried that one day.
Has anyone tried the 300 Savage with Hodgdon's LVR powder? I know Hodgdon doesn't show load data for it but it should be a pretty good fit with the 150 grain bullet. Might be interesting to play with, just as a tinkerer's handloading exercise...

I get 2600 with a 165 and 2700+ with a 150 being pushed with RL-15 loads are out of Hdy's load manual for people that dont reload this ammo will be a good deal. danny
My Dad (1922 - 2004) hunted all manner of Wyoming big game with his 300 Savage. None got away. Dad liked the performance of 180 grain round nose bullet best of all. That being said, Dad never had a chance to try Hornady's latest enhanced version.
