How many like and or use a front sight hood ?
I`ve never cared for one much but the one on my Guide gun is big and pretty thin so i can take it or leave it.
What`s your thoughts about using them ?
Thanks.

+1 - on 94s that had them, I've added when they've been missing.
Unless I have a specific reason to alter a gun I usually leave it like I bought it, that includes spare parts like a sight hood.
I find that a sight hood does help me focus on a front sight. I hate "shine", and I equally dislike "smudge", so I guess a sight hood is an installable "medium" type accessory.
It one gets knocked off or lost I don't freak out about it, and I don't recall ever replacing one.
So, it's a definite six of one or a half-dozen of the other.

A front sight hood is to protect your sight while traveling.
While shooting it goes in my pocket. When done it goes back on.
That is why they are easily detachable.
It also save your sight when leaning in a corner.
Like several others, I've got them floating around a drawer somewhere. They do exactly what they say they do. The hood the front sight, preventing light from hitting it. I need all the light I can get.

Kind of works like a front 'ghost ring' sight in some circumstances.
I like the way that they look on most rifles, especially bolt actions. I have them on all of my rifles that have a slot for one cut into the front ramp.
I like it, especially when shooting fast. If the hood is on the target, the bead is in rough position-- just fine tune.
When shooting SASS, I just put the hood on the target and fire--- its close enough. I very rarely will ever miss with the rifle. Can't say that for the pistols though
I've been trying to find all the missing hoods! It seems every levergun I buy used is missing the hood. Now I know who the dirty devils are that are removing them

That`s what my neighbor says, he loves them, says ya can get on a running deer real quick with one.
On the other hand it seems like i can focus on the sight a little better with out it so i`ll have to experiment a little. It does protect your sight some but on the other hand i`ve never had a damaged sight on any gun without one.
Thanks for all the replies.

Never liked one, took it off 40 years ago and have no idea where it went.
On a lot of guns that have peep sights installed, they often need a higher front sight, so the hood wouldn't fit anymore anyway.
I figured it's one more thing to pack full of snow or maybe a distraction on running game, besides I need all the extra light I can get. BUT now I'm going to have to do some playing around maybe I'll change my mind.
