Win 94 mag question

Post by J Miller »

How hard would it be, and how would you do it, to put a 26" magazine on this barrel kit: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Det ... ter=715730
rather than the short one that comes with it?

Never did like short mag tubes but do kind of like the half octagon half round barrels.

No idea about the tube mag, but that looks like a sweet set-up. That being said, I like my '41 and '77 carbines just the way they are.

To do it properly, you'd have to dovetail the magazine hanger out further on the barrel and drill a hole in the barrel for the mag cap screw; at a minimum you'll need that hole at the end of the barrel for the mag plug. With the taper of the barrel, I'm not so sure about its integrity after you do that. It might be problematic anyway, as the weight of cartridges moves beyond the magazine hanger... I.e.; you might not be able to maintain that screw inside the hole and have issues retaining the magazine under recoil.
You might be out a bit more money, as they ain't sellin' it as a kit, and don't sell the correct forearm, by getting their .38-55 full octagon barrel. It'll be heavy; as it's .850 across the flats from the breech to the muzzle. But, if my .30-30 version is any measure, they're accurate as all get out. They used to sell it as a kit like 1894-1994 Centennial kit, but I haven't seen it listed in several years. A phone call might get you more info. As sometimes they have parts that they don't list.

Well, Winchester made 'em like that with the full magazine, so it should work if done right.

Not interested in the 38-55 cartridge so that leaves that out.

Thanks for the info Griff.

I would think it would be a better shooter with a short mag "for accuracy" so if it were me I would leave the set up the way it is. Gary

Possibly, but I've never liked half or button magazines on lever guns. They just don't look right to me. And I've never had any trouble with accuracy due to full length magazines.
