Browning 71 makes good this year

Post by 19112TAP »

This is my second season using my Browning 71 carbine for deer season and it performed good for me last night.

I spotted a buck racking a tree right at dusk last evening but couldn't tell just what he was made of, so I grunted a couple of times with no responce so I snort wheezed and that really got his attention. He turned and started my way, but I lost him in the brush and was assuming he was going to go down wind to try and pick me up so I was checking all around me when he suddenly looked up at me at around 50 yds. The brush was very thick and all I could see was his head and neck, I had my gun at the ready and as soon as Iwas able to see if he was legal (4 point rule) I put the bead on his neck and shoulder intersection and touched off the shoot, at the shoot he took about three bounds and crashed. I lost sight of him at started looking for him but the brush was so thick I could not find him so I got down wind to pick up his scent at walked right up to him, he had fell in the middle of a wild rose bush pile. He is a really large body eight and his rack looked small until I got my hands on it I think he will go around 120"+. M buck from last year was about the same size only a messed up 10 point.

I use a williams reciever sight and 200 gr Hornady hand loads, I'm really pleased with this rifle and hope to use cast boolits next year.

Sorry no picks I don't have a camera that works good at the time.
