Marlin 336 in 356 win ?

Post by L8agin »

Is there a diference in the strength in the various 336 chamberings? Have there been changes over the years to accomadate hotter cartridges like the 356? Have been led to believe some have converted 35 rem to the 356. The 356 had a relatively short production. Is that due to demand or some problem?
My interest in 30-30 AI and the new interest in the old 35 rem got me wondering about the model 336 and it's limits.

As far as I know, the 356 chambering in the Marlin was only dropped due to lackluster sales. Never heard of any problems with them and haven't had any problems with mine.

Couple of recent threads over at " Marlinowners " are talking about the 356 . Basicaly from what I've read is that the receiver had no special treatment for the 356 . Unlike the 450m, 308mx and 338mx which use a different thread pitch for more surface area contact.

Thanks guys-Went over to the marlin sight and started registration. In short WOW. More info than I have time to digest and still shoot!! But pretty much answered my question on marlin strength. Problem is I might be looking for a 356 reamer!! And haven't really gotten started on my 360 DW project other than to find out the 357 handi rifle already chambers the DW brass, Just don't know about bullet seating room. Did get the max reamer too-the fun continues-hope to see a hundred and probably still won't get everything done :D

It would probably be cheaper to buy the .356 for sale in the Trading Post part of this forum, than to buy a .35 Rem and a reamer, but you wouldn't have the fun of making your own.

Missed that one TW, but I already have 3 35's. It is a nice rifle in my favorite style-SC, but can't quite find 600 all at once, and as you stated would miss all the fun. Thanks

You can rent reamers for as little as $35. I'm working on a project right now that I will have a spare 35 Rem barrel , which I will probably ream to 356 and attach it to a Glenfield.
