OT - doctored up a small knife

Post by bsaride »

Bought this off epay as I liked the blade. It had rough jute type cord epoxied to the handle.
I tea stained some string and rewrapped the handle. Tonight I made this little sheath.

I like it too.
Blade looks ground but not hollow ground , leading me to assume that the blade is not thick/heavy . Just right for shape and size. Never had a wrapped handle such as that in my hand but it looks very comfortable, thanks

That's pretty neat. Not being a knife x-spurt, what is a blade like that normally used for?

I like the shape & size of that blade - nice job !

I just finished making a patch knife for my roundball frontstuffer, from a $3 set of replacement blades for some sort of shears.

This is how mine started:

Then, after I ground down the "tang" area, I ran a saw kerf for the new tang into some walnut I slabbed off a hunk I have.

If a ham-handed oaf like me can do it - so can YOU !

Neat. The members of this forum surprise me all the time.

I need to get my shop built so I can back after it. I love making blades.

Neat! I am under the impression cord-wrapped knife handles are a seafaring tradition, the cord being something available when at sea, and handy for making the knife easier to use withoiut slipping when wet. Leastways that's what an old salt who was cord-wrapping his "rigging knife" told me. A blade such as that would be used as an emergency knife to save oneself should he get caught up in a line, perhaps yanked overboard, etc... Kinda like a pilot's "chop out knife"...
