Alot of us grew up with those little martini action Ithaca's. They are wonderful little guns. The best part was that you focused on that one shot.....open the action and watch and smell the powder roll out of the chamber, and repeat. Doesn't get any better. Congrats on those!

Chuck - I was surprised when I picked it up in the gun shop, lowered the lever, and found that it was a falling block action single shot. Maybe not a surprise for you; but it was for me! :o :D

That Mossberg Palomino is a nice looking rifle. I might have seen one before, but I won't swear to it.

The falling block Ithaca is an ancient design. My cousin in AZ has had one for 30+ years. It much have zillion rounds through it by now.
He and I shot it when we was kids and I'll bet he's taught his kids to shoot with it.

The one bugaboo with the Ithaca is that shorts will sometimes not quite expand and seal against gas blowby and you'll get a little hot gas in the eyeball. It will wake you up! Shooting glasses required. 8) These are Martini actioned guns....no es el falling block.

I shot tons of ammo through mine as a kid near the Superstitions Joe. Must have been popular guns for kids in Arizona.

How is the accuracy and reliabilty for the Mossberg?

I have the Western Field version of the Mossberg. Yours is immaculate! One hint: Operated the lever smartly and FULLY to the rear to ensure 100% reliable ejection. There's a spring that holds the bolt forward off the ejector, and if you're wimpy about the lever or short-stroke it, the empty may not eject.

Congrats!

A friend had a Mossberg Palomino like that and he had trouble breaking firing pins in his. I don't know if it was just his or all of them but he couldn't keep it running so he sold it.

Can't say I have ever seen one of those Palominos. When I was a kid a creek running buddy of mine had one of those Ithacas. He killed a lot of critters with it.
