Maybe they were not bred. However, in the second picture, the third elk looks a bit swollen in her abdomen.
Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter.

Calving season in this corner of the world usually begins in very late April -- May to be sure.

It will be interesting to see just how much the interference of US Govt. wolves had in last Fall's breeding process. Last years count was not very good.

Danny, I'd venture to say that one of those for sure is either going to give birth in mid spring or have one hell of a gas attack. At least two more are sport'n extended tummy's.

Hey! That's an idea! Nath, come on over and help cure the Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming wolf problem...All the area ranchers will love you.

(pssst. guys.....don't tell him it's illegal till he's done)

Instead of SSS it's CNX (call Nath and cross your fingers)

I sure know a lot of unhappy ranchers. Bunny huggers think it's no big deal to lose one calf. They don't stop to think that, out of a 400 cow/calf operation, it often takes 320 calves to make the payments (not necessarily pay the bills), 40 might disappear (stillborn, blizzard, illness, predators), and 40 are left for "profit" i. e.operating funds for the entire next year.

So if wolves get just one more calf, that's a 2.5% loss for the entire year. A stock fund manager would get fired for that if it happened very often.
