Post by SubDoc »

Any tips as to what bullets/molds and data for cast bullets in my favorite rifle? Factory ammo will drive you to the poor house!

I used Mt.Baldy's 350gr FNGC sized to .412. This bullet is a .416 cast design but Frank will size them to .412 for you. I do believe this is the 416 RCBS bullet. I used H-4198. They shot real well. http://www.mtbaldybullets.com/ Good Luck, 1886.

The original cast bullet for the 405 is the Lyman 412263 and it works quite well with 28 grs of 5744. This bullet is available already cast from www.montanabulletworks.com and Western Bullets in Missoula MT.
Buffalo Arms has their own bullet http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,7110.html,both in already cast and of course the mold. I have a shooting pardner that is using this bullet and is reporting under 2 inch groups at 200 yds using 29 grs of 5744. I have a few he sent me but haven't taken the time to try them yet.
I've also had some reasonable success shooting the 400 gr rcbs csa bullet, and the Lyman snover 400 gr bullet, both of these are avialable unsized from Montana Bullet works.
I've also been piddling with a 350 gr paper patch bullet that is showing some promise.
