Because of our stupid UK gun laws I can only have two .22 rimfire rifles without being" real "inventive with reasons to own more!
So I have had to sell my .22 Uberti 73 to purchase a Browning semi auto take down. I still have my 9422 which out performed the Uberti by a long way.
I got the Uberti as a project gun, it had been badly abused and was in need of restoration. However I never got time or found the spares that I needed.
The little Browning is going to be useful as I can pack it in a duffle bag. I sometimes have to use a rifle for pest control in built up areas and the sheeple over here can get upset when they see someone carrying a firearm and phone the police, which means a trigger happy SWAT team will descend on you.
However, I met a gunsmith today that convinced me to get a Marlin 1894CL in 32-20, so I hope that makes amends for selling a levergun for a new fangled (1914 design) semi auto!

The browning is a grade one made in Japan 1994. I have looked at these rifles since I was a kid and thought it was about time I found a reason to buy one! ps. I will still have to wait for at least two weeks for the police to OK the deal

Those Brownings are fine 22 RF autoloading rifles. The only glich is the bottom ejection. I once ejected a very hot empty case down my shirt sleeve and that was not fun..got a nasty burn.
game keeper, you don't live in the UK - I'm afraid you've somehow been mistakening placed in Hell! Heck, my son (9 years old) has more than two .22's. I would be a law-breaker numerous times over!!!

I would have loved to have purchased that Ubert '73 .22. Doubt I could have afforded the paperwork and shipping, but that would have been just too cool!!!
By all means get you a 32-20.that is the best small and medium game round there is. Kirk can be a big help to you if you plan to reload.I have been shooting a Winchester 92 32-20 since 1954 and it is a joy to use with cast or jacketed bullets. the 85 grain XTP is a fine one for this round.

I bought one of those little takedown Browning .22's a few years back and I'm in love with it. If I were healthy enough I'd like to take it squirrel hunting.
I also bought a Browning B-53 in .32-20 at auction this last year. I haven't shot it much, but it's a beautiful and accurate little lever. A friend said the .32-20 out of the Browning is comparable to a .357 from a handgun. I believe that was a very insightful comment.

I,m glad you kept the 9422, I,m also glad you are having that Browning too as I wish for many field reports as I have allways been interested in them so don't let me down! 32-20 did they grant it for vermin??? Hope so. You did good GK and keep up the good cat work Oh and where abouts is the carbine? I know of one in Sheffield at a dealers.

There is a Navy Arms 73 carbine in 22lr at Bate&Cross, Birmingham.
Phone No 0121 236 7451 it going for £225.
I got the OK from the firearms officer for a 32-20 for vermin control but I can't put in for it yet, as I have to raise the cash, sell my CZ Hornet and find a 32-20 thats OK. the only one I have seen so far was a worn out 73 for well over a £1000. I'm in no real hurry because at the moment I don't get to see as many foxes as you!!
If I have any factory Hornet ammo left after the deal you are more than welcome to it.

My understanding is that the UK went to gun control right after WW2 because they were afraid that all the well-trained and well-armed military folks coming back from the war would overthrow the government. Is that the case? And, anyway, isn't the UK a democracy? It's high time for the people to overturn the gun control by voting it out. Otherwise, remember that plenty of conflicts were waged in the UK without gunpowder weapons.
Yes we get to vote one set of dictators in for a term and then get to vote another set in for another term and in the mean time you can only moan because- yep you got it , they have taken all our guns just after the first world war.

Gk, been shooting pheasant and woodcock today on an estate with reloaded Pyrodex loads Did ok. The keeper said no fox's as the hunt may come through. On the first drive a fox came straight at me down to 15yds Then another walked past me this afternoon Oh well still plenty to go at

usavus. As Nath stated, it was after the First World War that gun control came in. The Government of the day feared a revolution like the one in 1917 Russia. Our country is full of sheeple now so even "if" there was anybody worth voting for they wouldn't stand a chance!

Have you noticed any increase in Woodcock numbers this year? My son say's he's never seen so many when he's been out beating!
The best shot on a fox coming out of a drive I saw, was a guy using a light weight 12 bore with 2" cartridges he bowled it over dead as a nit!
That was the only fox shot on a shoot day when I was the Keeper, so I must have been doing something right!
