What I picked up at the Hardware Store yesterday...

Post by Boge Quinn »

Winchester Chief Crazy Horse commemorative Model 94. I've wanted one of these for a long time, as I think they are beautiful and I love the .38-55. But unless you're Jeff Quinn, deals are hard to come by (Jeff STOLE his!). I bought this one at a fair price from a guy on the Ruger Forum, and I'm tickled with it - some of the purtiest wood I've seen on one!

That is purdy...always lusted over those. Spent much time looking at them in the case at Long's drugs in CA but they were always priced out of the range of a kid with a paper route. Congrats Boge!

Fantastic wood on that girl.

That is one of the best (in my opinion) CCH finishes I've seen.
I don't care so much for the bright multi-colored garrish ones.

Congratulations, Boge. Nothing better than having an itch and getting to scratch it. That wood is nice. Strange, to me anyway, how there's a front sling on the forend cap, but there isn't a corresponding one on the butt.

Fine lookin' rifle, Boge, but why only one sling swivel? Those deluxe type swivel mounts on the forend cap are very nice, but where's the one for the buttstock? :)

Made by USRAC too. That threw me for a loupe. Also it's a full length 26" rifle with a saddle ring. That's kinda different.

Boge, could you take a straight on pic of each side of the receiver so I can read the different Sioux tribes?

These ain't my pics, but the case colors are darker so you can read it better. Pics are too big to post here, so click these links:

If memory serves, these aren't the names of the tribes, but rather the names of battles in which he fought, with the White Man's names on the right side of the receiver and the Red Man's names on the left. Somebody correct me if'n I'm wrong about that.

Boge,

Thanks for the links. That's what I wanted. That is a gorgeous rifle.
I'm envious ... well maybe not. Someday maybe I'll find one as interesting.

What they all said. That looks real good. Just wiping it down would be fun, let alone loading & shooting it. Congrats!

Way back when, I worked as a sales clerk in a gunshop when those were released. We had one sitting for a very long time. I never developed a lust for the Chief, however, the Legendary Frontieersman was a whole other issue. I've always wanted one of them.

Heck I would like to just walk into a Hardware store that still carries firearms. Most all the ones I walk into these days, your lucky to come out of there with a cheap Chinese pocket knife, much less a CCH commemorative Win.!

Brigham Hardware in Dover, TN - wonderful place, hasn't changed since the '50s. They don't carry a LOT of guns, and the local economy won't support them carrying high-dollar guns, but they still have a guns & ammo counter.
