My Deer Rifle for Fall 2009... It's a levergun!!!
Warning!!! An ON TOPIC post follows this message!!!
Continuing with a theme we've seen from some others here lately, here's a fall picture -- sorry, no snow yet! -- of my chosen deer rifle for this fall...
A Marlin 336 Cowboy in 38-55.
Here she is at the local range: And for those who are curious about the Marble's Tang Sight, as I was before I added one, here are a few close-up pix which will show you how it fits the 336CB: Yes, it's a "tight fit", but the bolt WILL cycle with this sight installed. There are 2 screws on the bulky base of the 336 Sight, so you can easily remove part of the base & stem for cleaning (to pull out the bolt). Speaking of "tight fits", I can just get my thumb between the base and the hammer -- have not tried this with insulated gloves yet -- but maybe I'll get lucky and I won't have to hunt for too long this fall... But then again, even if I do, at least I can carry/handle/shoot a pretty rifle that looks and handles great -- like a levergun should!
Tight groups, and happy huntin'!

Nice! I have been looking for one just like it. I need to look a little harder I guess.

I posted an on topic thread once. I can't remember when though.
Old No7,
That's a beautiful rifle. I wish you great success on your deer hunt.

Great looking rifle. Instead of wrapping yor thumb around the stock, lay it flat along the side of the stock.

Yes indeed not only will you not have to worry about gloves getting in the way but it will also help with accuracy as it is hard to torque the rifle to the side with your thumb not wrapped around the wrist.Modoc ED wrote:Great looking rifle. [ but maybe I'll get lucky and I won't have to hunt for too long this fall...]
You mean somebody makes you hunt? If you don't want to go I'll sure go for you.

Cool rifle, Great cartridge, I plan on using my Marlin 1893 in 38-55 again this year. My wallet has been very lucky that I have not spotted one of those cowboys in that caliber on a rack/table. I'd have a hard time resisting one even though I'd probably still not give up using my 1893 for the field.
