86gr .25-35 loads

Post by Slick13 »

Midway has Remington 86gr. 25-20 bullets on sale so I picked up two boxes. Plan on loading them for my .25-35 Win. Any advice on powders and starting loads? Also, there's two crimping grooves on the Rem bullet.... which one should I use? The one that makes the overall cartridge length shorter or the one that makes it longer?

Thanks,

~Michael

Using the lower cannelure will give correct overall length for feeding through the levergun. I use it too but my gun is a single-shot and I do it more to get that bullet out towards the rifling. The nose end cannelure is for the .25-20 cartridge. I shoot mine over 8-10 gr. of IMR SR-4759 for around 1100-1400 fps. I'm intending for these to be my small game load for the gun and to use the same sight setting as with my 117 gr. RN load.
Sincerely,

Hobie
