While I was being artsy/craftsy - Ammo carrier

Post by 86er »

I cannot find a good ammo carrier that is acceptable to me. Most have closed ends. I want it to hold the ammo securely, but allow pushing up on the bullet to get it out when I need it. It should sit in the middle of the belt, centered in front. I just got my African skins back, so I made one for 458 diameter ammo and one for 375 ammo. The light colored leather is impala and the dark colored leather is eland. Not perfect - an artist I am not - but hand sewn and just the way I wanted them.

Sometimes those things we make ourselves are the best. They may look like an amature did it, but for us they work.
I've not done much leather work, but when I started reloading I found I really needed a powder trickler. Of course then I didn't have the money to buy one, so I pondered it out, and made one of my own. Just used old bits and pieces that were around the house. That was something like 35 years ago and I'm still using my home made trickler.

Joe, that cartridge slide looks good to me.

Go by my rule of thumb: Does it work, enough said. I spent the last day or so making a new reloading bench, it ain't pretty but at least it's not homely. And like yours Joe, it's made the I want it.

Stuff you make yourself is usually

a) better suited for the task, because it's the way YOU wanted it made, and

b) better made, because you likely didn't skimp on materials or use mass-production techniques.

The tradeoff is "it looks like someone made it himself" - well, Duhhh...!

And the bolded matters how? You've got way more ambition than I do, to do these yourself. They look great to me.
