Woo Hoo!!!!! Premium Deer Tag Draw Successful

Post by stew71 »

Finally!! After 4 years, I managed to draw a deer tag for a late-season hunt up in the North end of the state near Lassen Peak. It'll be nice not having to deal with the Indian summer heat we usually have each season in California. Even though I was born and raised here, I always envied you guys in other parts of the country that can hunt deer during the rut and in cold weather.

Now the big question....which thunderstick will accompany me on this hunt?? Hmmmm....oh decisions decisions!!

Wish we had a late season draw for Eastern Oregon. We're like you guys, hunting the first weekend in October gets old when the temps are in the 80's.
Congratulations!

Yeahhhhh.....my thoughts exactly. :) It's my only hunting rifle that hasn't been baptized yet. And the area I think we'll be hunting is down among some fir stands. No scope needed there!

Sounds like you pulled a G-1 tag. Now you got me all jealous! I got zip (again). I put in every year for the Devil's Garden muzzleloader hunt with G-1 as a second choice. This year will once again find me wandering around the western reaches of Shasta County seeing few if any deer and plenty of other hunters.... RATS!

Congrats!! What zone did you draw? Is it a rut hunt?

Nothing for me in Cali except my third choice D zone. I've been applying for the Doyle Muzzy hunt with max points since the point system began. I'm pretty much guaranteed to draw it sometime in the next 30 years

I know what it means to get a premium tag in Cali.

This fall I'll be hunting Mulies in Utah and our mini-mulies down here around San Diego.

congrats! be sure to show us pics of that premium deer!

I will probably stay close to home this year, last year I hunted two zones and it was exhausting!

Oh please, I think you drew pretty well when you hit the 470 lotto. You were probably just saving all of the juju up for that one draw.

Yep it's the G-1 hunt that takes place during the last week in October. My wife's uncle has been doing some scouting up there for the last couple of years and has some areas in mind that look promising. He's seen quite a few large bucks and a lot of sign.

Deer season can't get here fast enough.
