Semi OT: Neat old family photo

Post by TedH »

Traveled to KC today to pick up a new purchase, but that's a topic for another thread. The seller was located only a few miles from my wife's Grandmother, so we stopped by for a visit. She'll turn 90 this fall, and is compiling photos and stories of her life for her memoirs. I got this photo from her, and had a wonderful time listening to her stories of yesteryear on a small Missouri farm. She believed this was taken sometime between 1910-1920. The gentleman third from the left is her late husband's father, my wife's Great-Grandfather. I can make out three doubles, at least one of which has exposed hammers. One pump, not sure what it is. Mod 12 maybe? There was a caption written on the back that said the location was south of Butler, MO. and that it was illegal to have that many quail down, but they didn't enforce the law.

WOW! Cool photo Ted. I like these old B/Ws especially the ones with dogs in them. Quite the stringer full.

Great picture! Nice looking dogs; the setter in the center of the shot is really pretty. My Dad used to raise them back in the '30's. I'm thinking the pump gun is a Model 10 Remington (mainly because I can't see an ejection port - and Dad's is hanging on the wall behind me...)

Great picture, typical of the times no one is smiling on the photo but I bet they all had big smiles the second after that photo was taken. :D That was some Quail hunting! :D

I like how the dog on the left is holding his prize just as proudly as the men!

Here's one taken on our property around 1900 with my grandmother as a child. Unfortunately, nobody in my family is still around who can tell me who any of the other people are. It would be fascinating to go back in time and hear their stories.

Second guy from the right might be WWI vet, appears to be wearing USGI leggings.

We were wondering about that too. Also didn't know if the hat on Great Grandpa (third from left) was some sort of Military issue?

Pump gun's not a Model 10. I brought image up to 150% and I believe I can make out an ejection port.

Great picture Ted, I have hunted those Missouri quail up around St Joe with my wife's brothers, but we sure didn't shoot like that.
