1) sell it to me
2) redo the stocks, get rid of that funky checkering
3) fine candidate for rebarrel to .25 Bullberry

Put some nicer wood on it, or strip the wood that's on it and paint it camo.

If its a 30-30, re-chamber to 30-30 Ackley Improved,

Chop and re-crown the barrel to 16", parkerize it , sand the checkering off and thin the profile of the stock out at the same time, re-finish with a low maintenance oiled finish. Optional: attach rail and fwd mounted red dot sight.

Make a fun, somewhat cheap deep woods blaster that you won't mind bangin' around in the truck a little

Send it to J Miller. In spite of all the 30-30s he's owned he's never had a Marlin.

I lieu of that I think Modoc Ed has the right idea.

Actually, neither has the BlueStateSaint, either (though he does know of one that can be picked up somewhat cheaply).

I'd just use it. I don't see anything wrong with it like it is.

[What to do with a $100 Glenfield?]

Well, if it was for sale, the answer is "buy it" - That's CHEAP, no matter WHAT caliber it is (IIRC they were all .30-30).

And, if you've already bought it for the C-note, then adding the peep and hunting it's the right thing to do, fer sure !
