Perhaps a cardboard sign at a busy intersection: "Will Trade Primers or Ammo For BIG Money"

The sad thing is that those presumably well-crafted and potentially functional guns will mostly be sold to really wealthy people as wall-hangers. Those of us who'd really shoot a gun like that the way it was intended will mostly wind up getting the H&R's with the globe sights for about $4,000 less, and if we're really flush with cash that year, spend a couple hundred bucks tuning and refinishing them ourselves.

I really hate to see guns, or any other thing, made with such effort and precision and skill, then used as safe queens or wall hangers - you could do that with a plastic and styrofoam model.

P.S. - same with women...

What is this "black powder only" thing? Did they rebarrel it with a blank made to black powder specs or are they just being paranoid about it? It seems silly to rebarrel a rifle and they say black powder only. Or I could be missing something obvious. Wouldn't be the first time.

Many folks are shooting smokeless out of their old Winchester and Marlin rifles, what's the deal with this one?

They don't want folks hotrodding them with the loads they'd use in a Marlin or similar; it's saleman speak for "This gun has a weak action". :D

The guns antique action isn't up to more robust loadings.

On another subject... I don't think the price is way out of line. I also have noticed in the last 8 years of selling collectibles that even folks of my economic class or less income find the money if they really want to. One of these fellas comes in after work as a self-employed handyman in an old Chevy LUV pickup. I'm not sure but I think he eats one meal a day. He is setting up a manikin dressed as a 1943 US Marine to honor his father's service. It is all about prioritization. I know a lot of "common" people shooting $3-5K guns of various types or they have many less expensive guns that still rise to this level of total investment.

This gave me an idea for another poll...
Sincerely,

Hobie

Well, some of us just prioritise; if I buy a $10,000 car, the drive it off the lot, I've instantly lost $1,500 or so. In a few years, it'll be worth $1,500, total. If I just buy a $1,500 car to begin with, then spend a fraction of what monthly payments would cost me on maintenance, I have money to invest in guns, ammo, livestock, equipment, or whatever I want.

The new ones since their move to Michigan have gone beserk! Prices are astronamical now, and they were high before!
As for buying a Shiloh, well if a Ballard is ugly....never cared much for sidehammer singleshots.

Vall,
Me too. For some strange reason a '74 sidehammer never caught my fancy. Maybe its because they remind me of those big clunky 1861 Springfields.

As for that 4K gun, well, in my eyes, it is a reproduction. Only the action is original and thats been refinished.------------Sixgun
