I currently store my ammo in RubberMaid storage containers in my closet (heated in the winter and cooled in the summer). I want to get a lockable steel storage cabinet for ammo storage, but I am not sure if it would be OK to store the ammo in my garage, rather than inside. The garage gets cold in the winter and HOT in the North Florida summers. I have various kinds of ammo: rimfire, factory centerfire rifle and pistol , factory shotgun shells, and handloaded centerfire pistol.
Will the temperature extremes in the garage (40 degrees in winter and 100 degrees in the summer) affect the loaded ammo? I have read here that powder and primers for reloading shouldn't be subjected to temperature extremes.

Ammo Storage Question

have you considered storing your ammo in an old fridge?
Many of my friends have obtained old unworking refridgerators - sometimes for free, and bolted a lock to the door.
A couple of holes drilled to allow gas to vent in case of a fire was all they did. They report no problems with them.
I went to the trouble of lining my ammo storage shed (small tool shed) with insulation, so have no worries there.
