Sportsmen's Warehouse

Post by Blaine »

I heard from two different reliable sources that they were all on the edge of going under unless they find a buyer. Too bad, if true. I found them better stocked and cheaper than Cabela's.

they are really the only people in my area that attempt to stock a decent cache of reloading equipment. Bummer if true --- Bass Pro Shops is putting mine out if they go under. Crowds are always pretty light in my local SW now

I drove through Ft Worth recently and the Ft Worth Cabelas seems to have a decent supply of reloading gear, but its a 200 mile drive

Ammo shelves and component shelves at the Portland and Salem SW's are pretty bare and have been since before Christmas. Really sucks!!!!!

See this thread, dated 2/8/09:
"Sportsman's Warehouse sold to Canadian group?"

And from the Sportsman Warehouse web page:

November 26, 2008

UFA Co-operative Limited's increases annual revenue by $800 million with proposed acquisition of Sportsman's Warehouse

Calgary, AS, Nov. 26 - UFA Co-operative Limited is poised to acquire a majority interest in Sportsman's Warehouse, increasing the co-operative's annual revenue by $800 million.

Sportsman's Warehouse is a privately-owned outdoor outfitter with annual revenue topping $800 million and 67 stores in 29 American states. The acquisition aligns with UFA's strategy to diversify beyond its traditional businesses.

"UFA is a co-operative serving the people who live, work and play in rural communities," says Dallas Thorsteinson, president and chief executive officer. "Acquiring Sportsman's Warehouse fits perfectly with our strategy to create sustained valued for our owners by expanding to become a well-rounded rural marketer."

UFA will acquire a majority interest in US-based Sportsman's Warehouse. The acquisition is subject to successful completion of negotiations and a comprehensive due diligence process. UFA has already made a significant cash injection into the US retailer to ensure it's well stocked for the holiday retail season.

UFA is driving a controlled diversification strategy that includes construction and outdoor-lifestyle businesses. As a rural marketer, outdoor recreational products and services are a logical extension of UFA's existing relationship with customers and members. UFA acquired Canadian outdoor outfitter, Wholesale Sports in July 2008. Sportsman's Warehouse expands the co-operative's lifestyle business while financially strengthening the co-operative. With the addition of Wholesale Sports and Sportsman's Warehouse, UFA is a major North American force in the outdoor adventure industry.

UFA's 2007 revenues were more than $1.8 billion, ranking it among the 40 largest Alberta companies in terms of revenue, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers and Alberta Venture magazine. In 2008, UFA revenues will top $2 billion for the first time, having surpassed the $1 billion mark just four years ago.

"UFA is expanding beyond our traditional businesses to ensure that we can continue to serve our customers and owners." Thorsteinson added, "Our growth reflects our commitment to the people who have owned UFA for 100 years."

About UFA Co-operative Limited
UFA Co-operative Limited is one of Alberta's most dynamic enterprises. Canada's largest re-seller of diesel products serves rural communities throughout Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan with a construction division and an unmatched network of retail stores and petroleum outlets. With more than $1.8 billion in annual revenues and 120,000 active members, UFA is one of Canada's most successful co-operatives.

I have a friend who works there, and since they were sold he said things are going great! Not that they were bad before, but when they decided to sell they let inventory run down, as they didn't want to stock up and then sell.

They have built and opened two stores here in the last 6 months. Went to the one in Henderson NV. Today, was hoping to pick up a set of .223 dies, bullets and powder. Three strikes out
Went to BassPro, no dies or powder, I did find one box of 60 gr V-MAX's.
I'll try to get by the other SW tomorrow, hopefully get some dies. I hope they restock soon!

If they need a buyer maybe we can do a group buy. I'll put up the first 100 bucks. Who else wants to be a co-owner?

They could give us that thing, and we'd still go T.U. The first month's electric bill would be about 1.3 Million

Dang it! Both stores here are closing. So much for reloading components in the Vegas area.
The list is posted on SW website.

I work at Sportsman's in Medford, Oregon. We are still under the original ownership. We are very low on reloading components, ammo and handguns, but did get some Alliant powder and Hornady bullets in this week. it is very spotty. Part of this is the merger battle. Most of it is a nationwide shortage. If you go to the Hornady Web site, you will see their statement about "unprecedented demand"and 4- to 6-month delays. Many of the handgun (and AR) manufacturers are thousands of units in back order. No one anticipated the breadth and depth of the post-election spike in demand. Frustrating times for all of us, as I have been a shooter and reloader for more than 40 years.

Stopped in at my local SW this evening, and found 2000 Winchester large rifle primers, and 1000 Federal Magnum 215 primers!! Worth the drive across town. I feel bad they are closing it. Such a big, beautiful, and bran new store. Always busy too it seemed. One of the workers told me they will only be out West now. Not sure if this is true. Not sure what I will do now as I totally refuse to go in GM. Have to keep to the little guys, which isn't so bad.

The ammo shelves in their Colorado Springs store were BARE yesterday - but it was hard to find 45 ACP Federal Hydra-Shoks elsewhere also.

Bought up the last of the Hornady 220 375 FP's today....last box of anything(bullets) on the shelf at my SW. Even with their "store" close out sale pricing though, Dunhams is cheaper for tree stands and tents. Hate to see them go though!
