Buying 22 ammo

At what point do you figure you have enough? If you had 4000 22 mag shells and 10,000 22LR shells would you still keep buying ?

That depends on your individual plans. 20,000 rounds of 22LR may not be enough if you're using it for barter.

I agree. I spend a little money every paycheck for ammo or components. Sooner or later it will start drying up. And if I'm wrong and it doesn't, well, you've made a nice stockpile for the kids or grandkids to get when you're gone.

That's for sure. I bought a couple cases for the kids a couple years ago and it sure
dissapeared in a hurry!

Yes, keep buying. I'd say if you doubled the numbers you gave, you would be in pretty good shape. Maybe bring the .22 Mag count up to 10,000.

If you're a regular shooter of .22 ammo, you know how fast they can go.

I set up "ammunition goals" for every one of my firearms depending on how much I shoot them, how expensive the ammunition is, if I can reload for them, etc. I'd recommend at least a brick of two for every .22 you have. As others said, adding more when you find good deals (if you can nowadays) just increases your trading fodder.

10K of 22LR won't last long. Double it. My "rule" is that for every bulk pack I open (not empty) I buy two more to replace it.

my wife can not understand why i buy ammo all the time, even when i haven't been shooting in a few weeks. every time i go into wal-mart or a gun store i buy ammo. even if it's just one box, i make it a point to buy at least one box. when i go to a gun show i always come home with couple of bags full of ammo. my thought on this is you can never have too much ammo, it's not like it will go bad any time soon. with congress passing bills that they don't read, you never know if an ammo tax will be hidden deep somewhere in a bill. and i like the idea that if i shoot 100 rds of ammo, i replace it with 200 rds. i just need more room for my ammo, the big closet is getting full.

ok on stocking up, but I'm a little concerned about the fire hazard. I live in an apartment, and if there's a fire I'd rather not add to it.

I keep some, hopefully just enough to go "poof" for a few seconds. Not enough to burn down the whole block and leave a crater.

After reading this thrad, i ran to Bass Pro to get a couple of bricks of LR "can shootin" stuff. 20 bucks Geez --- i bought 3 boxes then stopped off at a local Wally --- 13.88 a brick was the tag on the shelf, but not a one in sight and hadn't been for weeks

And i thought the 223 stuff was bad (but 1500 rounds for 60 bucks is still a lot of shootin;)

Don't worry about it -- i had an s-load of cartridges in my motor home, which burned down a couple of months ago. Several bricks of .22's, along with hundreds of rounds of higher hp stuff like Weatherby and 45-70 cartridges. Sounded like firecrackers going off --- the fire dept people told me that without a barreled action, they basically just make noise -- although you dont want to be within - say 10 feet of them in case the projectile pops off too hard

Maybe that is the solution to Walmart's stocking problem. If they would just raise the price by about 70% and their profit margin by a couple of hundred percent then their shelves wouldn't stay empty. Bass pro's policy of not being willing to take cash without my name, adress, phone number and showing a picture id probably helps keep the checkout lines shorter also. I hope they enjoyed putting everything back on the shelves. I told them I wsa MR. CASH and left drovethe95 miles back home and havent been back.

----- hmmmmm --- no id check at the OKC Bass Pro. At times i have bought cartridges, powder and primers without an issue, same at Sportsmans Warehouse. Heck i even bought 65 boxes of .223 (1300 rds) at Wal Mart without an id check. Maybe it is a regional rule, or you might just look really young
