The challenge being barrel break-in.

I decided I would do the shoot one, clean all the copper out, shoot one......... for ten shots.

After the first shot, the lands were solid copper, with a couple of streaks in the groove. I had cleaned the bore perfectly prior to firing it.

Yancey and I scrubbed and scrubbed and never did get it all out. I shot two more with before we got rained out. Got it home and used Outers bore foam to get it clean. It took six soakings. Fired another shot. Solid copper. Took four tries with the outers, upped the soak time to 45 min each.

This continued for a total of twelve shots. No noticeable change in copper deposits. I've never seen a barrel grab this much copper. I'm going to firelap it and then go through the shoot-one-clean process again and see the difference. I'd shoot another and take a picture of the deposits, but I'm almost out of bore foam and I don't want to screw with cleaning it again. Well, maybe I will, it'll take me a while to make the firelap loads. It'll be nice to post the differences.

On a positive note, my saddle-ring addition might go pretty easy. There is a Chicago screw through the receiver that is threaded 6-48, the female side is passes all the way through. I'll cut the threads off a saddle ring and drill & tap it 6-48, cut the head off a 6-48 x 1/2" Fillister to make threaded rod, and attach the two. Maybe find a nylon washer to protect the powder coat on the receiver. I'll fit the factory screw into the hidden receiver end of the forearm in case I snap the saddle ring off if I fall down a mountainside.

358 Winchester, Remington Core-Lokt 200 SP over 48 grains of 3031, WLR primer.
Same load I shoot in my other 358 Wins.

I don't know what to say. My BLR take down in 308 broke in beautifully. I used factory American Eagle 150 gr FMJ.

Did you mention it to Browning?

I use the same bullet in my 356 Win. Model 94 with less powder chronoed at 2330fps. and love it. Bought 500 bullets at Midway on sale at what today would be a super...super sale. No fouling noted....I wonder if Remington had a quality control issue on the bullet (jacket material) or something. Might be worth a call to the customer service area and get in contact with a engineer who can answer your concerns....Of course I would contact Browning too.Maybe the bore is out of spec and has a poorly machined surface not visible to the naked eye. As a controlled comparison you might try an equal Hornady or Sierra bullet. I've shot my friends wifes 243 BLR Belgium and it is great shooter and nice rifle. Good luck and keep us posted.afish4570

I'm not going to mess with Browning again. It's just chatter marks. They do zero lapping to these barrels and they have zero desire to work with you except to offer to replace it with a new, not hand picked, complete gun. I'll just firelap it and go on with life. I've done it before and I have no fear of doing any damage.

Not sure if you used Windex just before each shot, but I did per Badger Barrel break in procedure, and my barrel did not hold much copper at all. Supposedly most copper solvent has an oil base to it, and the windex removes this before your next shot. Just a heads up. I have not tried any of my own loads yet, but my rifle shoots .75 with a good friends low powered load.
