OT: Which Military is this?

Post by J Miller »

I got the following email from my friend in AZ:
Do you have any idea what country this guy is from?

It sure doesn't look like the U.S.

I ask because this picture(with several others) was on a job website I
just looked at that is "supposed" to be a U.S. company.
Who is this.JPG
At first glance I thought U.S. Marine Dress Uniform, but then again it don't look exactly like those Marines I've seen.
But then again I'm not an x-spurt on military dress uniforms.

I believe that is U.S. Army dress blue with some type of ceremonial belt.

Yup, Army Dress Blues......Wore them all the time for ceremonies. The belt was a PITA to get right, or rather, get your coat folded up properly under the belt.

They don't wear greens anymore. ACU or whatever they call them now and the blues.

Thanks guys for the information.

Now on another avenue;

My stepson is trying to get back into the National Guard. He hasn't elaborated why, but has asked for all the pertinent info the govt requires him to put in the forms. Here is a pic of him in his greens some 22 years back:

So if you can send him good wishes and prayers I'm sure it will help.

Yeah what they said Joe. Most probably a member of the "Old Guard" Infantry unit assigned to Washington D.C./Arlington. The blue cord is always Infantry ....Oooorah.

Good luck to your Stepson. Give him a big thank you for us. A recruiter would be able to help him out I'm sure.

Tomb of the Unknowns?

In case anybody is interested, the Army is ditching the green Class A uniform in favor of the blues. I believe the RA has already made the switch, and the wear-out date has come and gone, but most NG Soldiers don't have the new issue yet.

Well, the Army's ACU's and the Air Force ABU's look alot alike from a short distance, but I am not aware of them actually sharing any uniforms. At one time, all four major branches did wear BDU's. Navy SeaBees, cargo handling battalions and similar units.

That is a Sergeant from the Old Guard in Washington DC. Very prestigeous job in the US Army if you fit in their requirements. Thanks for sharing....Tom

Yep, I was thinking it was from the group that guards the Tomb of the Unknowns.

The original question has been answered, but to clarify the Marine Dress Blues:

White cover
White belt with bright buckle
Navy blue (almost black) dress blouse with red piping
Light blue trousers with red (blood) stripe

Such as worn by the Staff Sergeant in the attached illustration, front and center.
