It still freaks out some folks to find out "the preacher packs a pistol!". At our national convention of churches earlier this month somone happened to notice a bulge under my shirt (it ain't easy concealing a gun in hot weather) and next thing I know several folks are asking about it. And down here where it's all "hug, hug, pat, pat" more than one person has come in contact with a "strangely shaped cell phone" during the traditional abrazo. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that without offending some peoples' sensibilities. On the other hand, some folks know me as "the crazy gringo who rides a motorcycle and packs a gun."

People are like that sometimes about being surprised doctors or nurses would carry a firearm; they say "But isn't your job to protect life...?" Well, duhhh..! That's what GUNS do, excepting if they are in the hands of criminals or irresponsible people, same as cars, drugs, or whatever.

I usually turn it around on them, and ask them how on earth one can reconcile being a good person, responsible citizen, head of household, etc., much less a 'healer' of body or spirit, and then NOT having one of the most basic tools with which life can be protected.

Yes it is. Jim's new missionary efforts amongst the Baptists are VERY cool! After all, even Baptists need the Lord! ;)

I knew that sooner or later the "crazy gringo" would start in on us "real believers". I'll have you know That our church still uses the only real Bible KJV AV 1611. This past summer my pastor had a CCW class taught one Saturday at our church camp and twenty five men and women took the class and all passed it, see , even Baptist can be saved by the Blood of the Lamb and still shoot. Of course I know that there will be other saved folks in Heaven too, I think. (If I knew how to use the smiles I would here). All in Christ's love, Jerry

Well, the way I explain it to folks is, my grandparents raised five christians, one atheist and a baptist.  In our own family we've got three christians, a CoC and a Baptist. The last time I looked the only folks in heaven will be those who've been "washed in the blood of the lamb". Even the first Baptist - John - will only be there due to the grace of God. And yes, it's all in good fun and Christian love. Like I used to tell my "baby" sister - "I only pick on you 'cause I love you." And without that love we're all in trouble indeed.

In Christ,

well this baptist pastor packs a 38 special and a bible in the pulpit. i even bring a rifle and set it by the organ at times. we have a deep rural church and love it. there has been times when bows and arrows, footholds, snares, and several other things may appear that would cause some citified believers grave concern. i have learned though not let my freedoms to cause the immature to stumble so when i go to a city church, i go concealed.

i know a number of priests and ministers, besides the members of this forum, who hunt, shoot, and carry concealed handguns. They take Luke 22:36 seriously.

On a less serious note, it never fails to amuse me when good folks who are strong for Individual Freedom, and morality describe the King James Version as "the real Bible." The apparently don't know or ignore the fact that King James I of England & VI of Scotland, was a vicious old homosexual tyrant who ordered the English translation of the Bible with a slant to support the Divine Right of Kings, bolstering his own despotic views.

Some of the newer translations are more faithful to the original texts than the KJV and the language is easier to wrap around a modern tongue.
