DETROIT POLICE PLAN 'GUN BURN' TO DESTROY CONFISCATED FIREARMS
The Detroit News
The Detroit Police Department is slated to destroy more than 500 confiscated firearms on Friday during its final "gun burn" of the year, police officials announced. The department's Property Control is expected to display the 575 firearms at 7:45 a.m. Friday in the department headquarter's garage, 1300 Beaubien.
At 8 a.m., the firearms will be loaded into a secured vehicle and transported to an undisclosed location where they will be destroyed. The seizure will bring the total number of firearms destroyed by the department in 2008 to 3,752 guns. So far this year, the department has confiscated more than 4,520 illegal firearms, officials said.
Above is the reason there is virtually no crime in Detroit.
Well, God Bless those smart administrators in Detroit. They really have the problem of crime and how to stop it all figured out. Our great city of Philadelphia has these gun buy back programs. I probably have taken 10 guns to them for $50 to $100 each in credit for food. The total value of all of the guns was about $50.
I'm sittin' on another 20 junk guns waiting for the next gun buy back but for some strange reason, they do not advertise these programs anymore. I'm a country boy, so I am relying on my city spies to infrom me.
As for confiscated guns here in Pa. As long as they were not used in violent crimes, I know a guy who has the "ins" and he buys them from the police and puts them back in the hands of law abiding citizens, where they belong. --------------Sixgun
Good for you Sixgun. Take guns worth barely a plug nickel, have the government waste money on buying them, and take the money and buy good firearms.
Better yet is what your buddy is doing - taking good guns and getting them back out wher they belong! Almost nothing burns me up more than when I see some little old laddy turning in a Colt SAA, or some fine Winchester, knowing the slug are going to give her a penny on the dollar for what it is worth - and then destroy the gun!!!
Hmmm... with enough forthought, and a couple of APCs comebody could make a pretty good haul...

I had a friend who worked at a local metal smelter, and he said every so often the Honolulu Police would come with an escorted truck loaded with firearms mostly turn-ins by relatives of the deceased gun owners (gun crimes very low in the islands so more turn-ins than confiscations) who fear guns so just want to get rid of them. He said sometimes he'd see beautiful engraved double guns and they all went into the furnace to be turned into concrete rebar with guards watching throughout the whole process to make sure it happened. He said he wanted to cry every time they showed and he had to load these guns into the furnace. If the HPD was smart they would sell the more valuable specimens at auction to law abiding citizens but feel HPD thinks law abiding people don't own guns.

It's apparent that most big city PD's and the politicians pulling the strings behind them don't believe that anybody should own a firearm but them.
Didn't get it from a PD but back during WW Nam I happened upon a pile of S&W Mod 10 M&Ps in a salvage yard that were being cut up with a torch..It was lunch time so the pile was unattended.. First one I picked up ( a cherry ) seemed to work properly.. I stuffed a couple more in my pockets for parts if I needed them.. I finally discovered what was wrong with the cherry after a couple of days.. When it was pointed upward the cylinder wouldn't rotate.. Swapped out the hand parts and Presto Change O ..Had me a dandy.. I always wondered if they just junked them rather than fix them...

I have a friend who was on the NYPD in the old days. He says a lot of the confiscated
guns not needed for trial just vanished from the evidence locker - especially the
nicer examples!
