This morning, I called Kid Cossack to talk a while, and then with one question, he ruined my whole evening's plan.

I'd planned to get mildly sloshed and bemoan election returns and he ruined those plans with one question.

He asked me: "Which do you suppose will be worse? The riots if Obama wins, or the riots if Obama loses?"

Now instead of taking a few drinks in an attempt to drown sorrow, I'll be loading up a few extra guns and keeping a sober eye on the perimeter.

That rascal always has been to danged good at posing thorny questions!

A friend of mine asked me yesterday if I've riot-proofed my house. I wasn't sure exactly how to riot-proof my house so I said no and asked him how he did it. Well ... he went out in his neighborhood and snatched up a couple of Obama/Biden signs to plant in his yard should things turn ugly. That way, he looks like a die hard supporter and will hopefully be spared.

Well... at least there were no celebratory riots.

But there were a large number of gunshots from the Projects near me, as well as fireworks.

All too 3rd-world for my comfort.

And yes, I was awake most of the night. I can sleep through fireworks, but regular gunshots tend to turn me "on".

He is still in Houston and doing just fine. He tried to start an intellectual discussion (on the pumpking/goard board) on the concept of a just war and how that applied to Iraq and folks got quite hostile at him. I think there was even on offer to do personal combat. I have known Lewis Ballard for some years now, have broke bread with him on a number of occasions and he is a stand up guy. He is quite intelligent and tends to intellectualize life. He is a Christian man, and thought grown up Christian men should be able to discuss the concept of a just war (Agustine) without getting upset. He was wrong.

He has never been a fan of the Iraq war and neither have I. The attacks against him were pretty nasty and he just decided it was time to pack up and go elsewhere. He was a member of this family of boards for many years and deserved better than what he got over there.

I've heard Lewis use the term often.

BTW, I passed along news of the inquires to Lewis, but I've not heard from him since last night.

Lots of noise and some rowdiness, but nothing major.

When I walked the dogs Tuesday night, it sounded New Years Eve without the fireworks. Lots of hooting and hollering from the east side of town and the dormitories. I was packing so much iron I had to take up my belt a couple of notches to keep my kilt up.

The Boys Dorm emptied and they headed over to the Girls Dorm to celebrate. When things started getting out of hand, the House Mother shooed the boys out and announced a lock down of the Girl's Dorm until sunrise. A black girl commanded "Shut up you stupid old white B**ch!" She got expelled first thing next morning.

During the same time, one of the white students commented that Obama would probably get assassinated pretty soon. The Vice-President of Student Affairs and a couple of cops removed her from the dorm and took her home for her own safety, no disciplinary action.

In a nearby town, cops arrested a couple of dozen people for disorderly conduct and dispersed a crowd of several hundred rowdy celebrators, but no real violence.

In all, it was much more peaceful than I expected. Even so, I'm still on a somewhat heightened state of alert.

I ate at the 'Ole Mill in the "Forge" last weekend after hiking around and viewing the colors. Got me thinking about you and the missus. Wondered what you'ins been up to? Did the Missus finish her PH.D in "Dogtown"? How about your culinary career? Still on track? My Pop was pretty sick all last year, and finally passed away around Labor Day, so I haven't had much time for this computer stuff. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi, and I hope everything is well with you all down in the Magnolia State!

I don't worry about Obama or McCain or anybody else. Hell, I know places in these MOuntains where no one would ever find me, 'cept if'n I want 'em to.
