OT: Leather Gloves

Post by Aries »

Anyone know who sells some nice very thin leather shooters gloves sort of like a Old West style gunfighter's gloves maybe without the leather fingers attached?

Try any place that sells motorcycle gear. Those fingerless rider's gloves are not only useful as shooter's gloves, they also protect my hands when sewing leather. On the down side, they only come in black.

For general wear gloves, I've yet to find any that are better than the Plainsman leather gloves. They are generally a buckskin yellow color and are quite supple. They are about the only gloves I use for cold weather these days. And despite being marketed as work gloves, they look good enough to wear anywhere color coordination is not a must.

I like these goatskin gloves from Schaefer Outfitters. They are supple enough to have a very good feel on a trigger and the wrists are longer than normal for added comfort. (Note: For some reason the description of these gloves in the online catalog is wrong. There is no added layer of leather over the palm and no elastic in the wrist. My gloves, which I bought this fall, are exactly like the ones pictured.)

I also bought and highly recommend the leather trimmed canvas/polartec lined Cattleman Vest that has a hard to find generous sized collar you can turn up to keep the wind off your neck. I mention this because...lucky you...it's on sale! This is the best (non-down) vest I've ever owned.

Over the years I've owned several of Schaefer's Yampa Valley Drifters, too. Everything I have owned from Schaefer has been outstanding quality and no wonder...it's USA made!
