A friend of mine called this morning, wanted to know if I knew any one looking for a lever 22 ? And it is a Marlin 1897 made in 1904, and a take down model. barrel/bore is in good shape. No cracks or splits in the wood.
I have been looking for one for quite a long time now and want a shooter not a safe Queen collector. I believe this might be what I am looking for. He say's its about 90% on the blue, but has a couple of issues a collector would not like. Some one drilled & tapped the receiver for scope Mounts, and it is wearing a 4 power Weaver scope. And to get the front scope mt. to set on the receiver correctly they removed a little wood on the fore stock. Like I said this is a shooter & not a collector piece. For $400.00 I don't think I can go wrong. What say you ?
Marlin 1897, may be mine soon !

All Model 1897s are takedowns...sounds like a good deal.

Not a bad deal for a shooter, just remember this is a standard velocity only option.
Let me know if you decide to get it and need to replace the bolt, lol.
I have a new bolt waiting to be fitted to my Pre-A 39 (workin on the 1893 first)
during my looking for a bolt I picked up a 1897 bolt as well.
I've shot my 39 for about a year when about 6 weeks ago the front of the bolt
decided to stay in the front and the rear of the bolt still liked movin with the lever.

Yes, be very careful what ammo you buy to shoot in the old 1897! Std. or target velocity only. If it's over 1,000 fps it's too hot and will break the bolt, sometimes even cracking the frame at the same time.

Target Shorts, CB Shorts, but no High Velocity Shorts.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
