The past week I have been having heel pain, left side.
No swelling , redness, injury's. I'm thinking tendonitis?
I've been taking Aleve which helps but every step is painful.
Thoughts? Treatments?

Could be plantar fasciitis, I’ve been dealing with it for a couple months now. Doctor offered an anti inflammatory and a steroid shot but I wanted to try the also recommended stretching. He gave me a boot to wear for thirty minutes a few times a day. So far seems to be helping.

As already mentioned, good arch supports can be effective......and you don't need to break the bank either.
I've used "store bought" inserts ($35/pair) successfully for years.

I wear custom orthotic supports, I have extremely high arches.
I don't wear cheap shoes, Kenetrek are daily drivers.
It's easing up and better with shoes on.
The pain is the Achilles, not in the sole.
I'm sure if I went to an MD they would want to start with oral steroids, nope can't take them, last time I tried them I had heartburn that would light up Cleveland!

I sure hope the Doc weighs in on this. I have had exactly the same problem in my left Achilles for most of the summer. Aleve helps some days but no reason or rime to what would really help . A trip to the Dr. here would start a never ending stream of referrals to this specialist and that one....My Wife is going through that now for months. with no help for a pinched nerve in Her neck.

The most definitive characteristic of plantar fasciitis is that it shouldn't hurt when you wake up and have yet to stand on it. Then it will immediately (first step) hurt like the Dickens on your walk/limp to the bathroom. After you're up on it a few minutes it settles down. It may go through several such cycles in a day if you sit or lie down very long (so it resolves). Towards day-end it might not resolve but usually by morning it will.

It is usually due to the front/distal metatarsals dropping down for lack of support over time, and associated with hammer toe (or bunion as the force on that toe is more lateral than upwards). The fix is better support but add support gradually; moving everything around too fast hurts too. Diclofenac topical pretty safe but need to use it several times a day.

Arthritis can be similar type of pain but timing not like that; usually needs prescription Rx's

Neuropathy is tingly burning and worse at night; often indicates MTHFR or COMT issue impairing methylation, and worse if you're insulin resistant (or testosterone/estrogen ratio low). MethylGuard Plus or similar OTC supplement can fix (takes 3-6 months, and ongoing Rx) if homocysteine >8 and either normal genetics or due to MTHFR or COMT SNP. Blamed on 'poor diabetes control' but severity doesn't correlate all that much with sugars. Sometimes due to disk or nerve impingement but often responds similarly.

However my pain is not the bottom of the foot, the pain is the vertical part of my heel into my calf.

The plantar fascia wraps under the heel and attached at the back, so pain can locate there.

If the timing/pattern is consistent with plantar fasciitis then it still may be that. However if it goes UP into the calf it could be the Achilles tendon itself, and if that ruptures it would be very catastrophic. An MRI sometimes is needed to see if it is rotten.

Also always keep in mind a deep venous thrombosis (blood clot) could be there and is extremely dangerous. Sometimes hard to tell even with an examination (Doppler ultrasounds work well).

Deep central calf pain could be either Achilles or clot, but the tendonitis will mostly hurt when stretched and the clot mostly when pushed on, but too much overlap to be sure so best to get a medical person to check it out.

Not into my calf, so I doubt it's a dvt.
