Re: What’s the difference between Universal and Universal Cllays?
Scott, I believe the original Clays version version was a bit hotter.
They dropped the Clays but the label is exact same design but the load data printed on it has been reduced and they added a few shotgun loads. I'd say yes they are the same but for safety sake I'd pop off an email to Hodgon .

Yes, Universal and Universal Clays are the same. The problem originated with Hodgdon having 3 similarly named powders:
Hodgdon Clays
Hodgdon Universal Clays
Hodgdon International Clays
Plain old "Clays" is a touch faster than Bullseye whereas Universal is similar to Unique. I understand that International is slower yet, maybe similar to Herco? In any case, they finally dropped "Clays" from the labels of Universal and Int'l but not before everyone was thoroughly confused.

I really like Universal. Substitute for Unique medium revolver cartridge loads. A bit cleaner as well. MK

I think they say something to the effect of "with Clays technology" now. It was a disastrous naming convention ... hopefully never to be repeated.samsi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 11:56 am Yes, Universal and Universal Clays are the same. ... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

That's been my experience with it too -- it's all I use in my reloads.
