I'm sorry to hear about your health but happy to look at your pictures. That's an interesting variation on a tang sight.

I probably could not get along without some sort of tang sight. My eyesight was not very good when I was in my twenties .......and that was over 50 years ago.

Sorry to here of your decline in health ,hang in there keep the faith.

As for the carbine it surely is a nice one , appears to be one of the more pricey tang sights made for Savage 99 ?

That is a pretty one, and a little honest wear adds character. Used, not abused comes to mind.

that tang sight is called a 'special base' model and these models were available for marlin, winchester, savage and others. they appeal to those who like to wrap their thumb over the stock and they also give a slightly longer sighting radius. these models are very hard to find.

i can shoot well with tang sights, but not nearly as well without them

Sorry to hear about your health fight. I love that rifle, and that tang sight would be interesting to try. I put one tang sight on a rifle. Hated it so bad I sold the rifle. I wrap my thumb around the stock and the sight interfered terribly. This one would probably work.

Purty purty! But that tang sight would be a hazard to my shootin' eye with my style of hold.

That was what I was thinking also.

no, it is called a 'special base' sight and was made for the marlin. very hard to find. they also made this type for winchesters ,and others, but this is not a savage 99 sight.

Sorry to hear about your health. The rifle would have been "TOO PRETTY" for me to take to the woods as I break things.

Sorry to hear about your health issues. I sincerely hope it improves.
That is a great looking 93 carbine. You have more of those scarce tang sights than I've ever seen in one place.

Really a great Marlin 1893 Carbine, and in nice shape! Marbles listed those sights as their "Special Flexible Base" tang sights, and most people love them because it allows the shooter to wrap his thumb over the top tang, where a regular tang sight wont. It also puts the sight closer to the shooter, so the bolt doesn't strike the tang sight when cycling the lever like a regular tang sight does. I really like those sights myself, but they do require a smaller aperture opening when the sight is closer to the shooter's eye.

hfcable, good looking Marlin and sight setup also! Sure hope you get doing better, out & about using these rifles! I understand, I'm 65 have a genetic lung disease, Alpha1, requires a iv infusion every 2 weeks. Got Black Lung from 40 years coal mining, plus I smoked for 25years! In 1996, I was in a Coal Bump, killed 2 injured almost entire crew. The center of it was few feet behind me. Now I figure hardly anyone knows what I'm talking about, but it equivalent to the coal exploding ( coal grained lot like glass) from the pressure of couple thousand feet of mountain above. Similar to deep water pressure. But when you take so much coal out, coal remaining can't hold the load. It explodes! It measured 2.7 on Riktor Scale in Australia, plus plenty other places. But it broke my neck, plus bunch other bones. Dr's told me my mining days where over!
I'm not glorying, or trying to sound like Iron Man. I've learned better! Because all that episode, plus other bads previously and since? Everyone told me, "Get out, Sue, Retire, cause if you heal go back, in 5 years you'll be crippled! My left arm nerve was so damaged, I couldn't push an inside door shut! I could trace the nerve thru my left arm like a hot wire! Plus 4 teeth knocked out, bunch more, Vertigo so bad I couldn't stand without heaving!
No, I'm glorying in "My God, My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!"
See I was lost then, 37 years old proudest and thought the toughest man alive! Lot would've agreed!
But I got on my knees everytime I could, Lord, I don't want nothing! Just give me my life back, let me finish raising my 2 boys, wife, live like I had been, nothing more! And I'll ask you to save me, change me, teach me to be the man I should be! 4 months later I was 90% normal back on my regular job, took 2 years bad suffering to heal my left arm, it's 98% since! And I worked from June 1976 until July 31 2016 without going a single day without a job! Yeah missed plenty days because of injury, Lol! And it was usually gruesome work! Again I'm not glorying in me, but I am My Lord! He saved me August 2003! And I couldn't draw my next breath without him! Him, His Word, His Promises are The Way, The Truth, The Life!
And looking back, I could describe to understanding many incidents similar to this, and one even more unbelievable, that I walked away from, not by me, but by Him!
And I'm just saying this hopefully to your help! Because I got to witness the truth that's in Him! I try not to speak iron, but testify of Almighty God!
Since I retired, now, I feel and talk like a kid, cause in reality, I know I can do nothing apart from Him!
And HE hears all and does His Will in any life that seeks Him and believes Him! Age is no limit, but yes a limiting factor of this life! Please don't give up, hang In there, but all the well wishes such as me can't help you. But God Can, hopefully He will. I'm about broke down, can't breath hardly, but I'm like a kid again when I get out with my guns, shooting, especially hunting! And I'm never Alone, but most always by myself, doing these things. But I'm blessed with 2 finest boys, granddaughter, daughter-in-law, rest family, as a man could ask for!
I pray you healing and the best here on out! Guns, shooting, hunting are good things when done right! I often have very special times, just me and Lord with mine! By God's Grace anything can happen to those who believe and seek Him!
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life"

"Better drawdown Alvin!"
"If you gotta shoot, shoot don't talk"
