30 super carry question
I just noticed it has a bullet diameter of .312 , same as 32 h&r and the like , wonder why it wasn't called 32 super carry ? Is there no interest in 32’s, personally I like 32’s ?

Re: 30 super carry question
That has been the million dollar question since it was released!
Seems like there was a ton of hype about it that has since become crickets. Kinda like the 327 Federal.
Nothing wrong with the 32's , just have to be one of the cult to appreciate it I guess.

BROWN LABS MATTER !!
Re: 30 super carry question
Why call it a .38 if the bullet diameter is .357? Or call it a .44 when in fact it is a .429?
Because...that's what they do.

Because it's an updated .30 Pederson / .32 French Long.

Re: 30 super carry question
I had fun shooting and loading for it using the S&W M&P EZ platform. It's a useful new member of the .32 family.
Ian at Forgotten Weapons really likes it. Like Ian, I have been a fan of the French Modèle 35A for decades, although I haven't owned one in years.

Re: 30 super carry question
Because there was a .36 colt black powder. And they wanted to impress upon folks that the new centerfire rounds were more powerful. They also call it the .454 but it's only .452. And so it goes.

Re: 30 super carry question
Uh ... not to cause any problems, but if referring to the "454 Casull" ... there is no period before the number, indicating it is not a caliber designation but a caliber name. Just like the "480 Achilles" which is .475" diameter.
Re: 30 super carry question
Don't forget the 38/40, which actually should be called 40/38 since the projectile is 40 cal.
As an aside, I also like the 40S&W 'cause it's the modern equivalent of the 38/40 (40/38?) made for auto loaders!

Re: 30 super carry question
I want to see the .30 Super Carry in some kind of light carbine. That would be a mighty fine woods-walking gun.
Extra points for a pump action. The Remington Model 25 of a new generation.
Sigh. I can dream...

If you go that route, might as well make it a 30 Carbine?Gunstore Commando wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:11 am I want to see the .30 Super Carry in some kind of light carbine. That would be a mighty fine woods-walking gun.

If it's not a semi-auto you can always download the 30 Carbine to 32-20 velocities.

.30 Super Carry
.312” diameter bullet
100 gr. Bullet @ 1250 fps
pressure = 50,000 psi
.32 H&R Magnum
.312” diameter bullet
100 gr. Bullet @ 1208 fps
pressure = 21,000 CUP
.327 Federal Magnum
.312” diameter bullet
100 gr. Bullet @ 1400 fps or 1655 fps
pressure = 45,000 psi (maximum)
Nothing "super" about it except the pressures.
For me, the tiny calibers shine for practice/training/keeping in shooting shape. More shots per dollar, especially when you reload. But if you need to use something for serious work, don't send a baby to do an adult's work.

Re: 30 super carry question
Fairbairn thought the 7.63 Mauser (essentially a downloaded Tok, of course) was the deadliest pistol caliber. That was then, this is now, but, yeah, if you took a round from a Bolo Mauser to the torso in 1930's Shanghai, you were probably going to die, right?
